— Pearl residents Josh and Stephanie Gilmer are set to bring a new service to Jackson pet owners when they open The Pet Shop of Fondren (2947 Old Canton Road, Suite G) on July 1. The pair has extensive experience working with animals through Animal Medical Center and Animal Health Products in South Jackson.

The Pet Shop of Fondren will focus on nutritious pet foods made with fresh meats and all-natural ingredients from providers such as Earthborn and Taste of the Wild. The store will also provide pet vaccinations and sell products such as kennels, flea and tick medication and de-worming products, as well as handmade leather collars, bowls leashes from local craftsmen. Customers will be able to receive delivery service in Fondren, Belhaven and Eastover.

"We want to be a staple in Fondren and help to keep it local in the small-business community," Josh said. "I've been a member of the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi for years, so handmade local products are especially important to me."

The Gilmers plan to host a special event to celebrate The Pet Shop's opening during the next Fondren's First Thursday on July 7. The couple plans to implement a "Pet of the Month" feature at the event, wherein customers and pets will be able to have their photos taken together and the Gilmores will name one pet as the Pet of the Month, with the winning pet's owner receiving a store discount for the month.

The Pet Shop of Fondren will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 601-398-4198 or visit the store's Facebook or Instagram pages.

Orangetheory Fitness Comes to Madison

Husband-and-wife duo Dock and Kelsey Daniel, together with their friends Dale and Teresa Kilpatrick, teamed up to open Orangetheory Fitness (111 Colony Crossing, Suite 460, Madison), a national fitness studio that focuses on implementing personal heart monitors into workouts, on June 10. Orangetheory has one other Mississippi location in Oxford.

In Orangetheory workouts, all clients wear personal heart-rate monitors that display information on participants' heart rates on a large board while they do various exercises, allowing fitness instructors to develop a custom workout routine tailored to each individual's current level of fitness and adjust it over time. Orangetheory workouts include activities such as treadmill training, weight training, indoor rowing and water rowing.

Dock Daniel, a physical education teacher at Mannsville Upper Elementary School in Madison with 18 years of experience, has been incorporating the use of heart-rate monitors in his classes for more than 10 years.

"I know information from heart-rate monitors is great for instilling a stronger work ethic in the kids in all my classes," Daniel said. "You can easily see the educational value in the feedback these devices provide and how far it goes in giving an individual a sense for how hard they're really working in a workout session."

The first session at Orangetheory is complementary, and workout packages are available in four sessions, eight sessions or an unlimited amount of sessions per month, with no contracts and pay-as-you-go options available for all packages. Learn more about pricing and packages on Orangetheory's website or Facebook page.

Orangetheory is open Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon with classes throughout the day. Sundays have three classes at 1 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. that day.
