Why does Ward 3 need you on the Jackson City Council right now?

The City is in a progressive mode now and positioned to make significant strides in economic and community development. If elected, I would bring my leadership experience as a manufacturing manager and military officer, technical & project management skills as an engineer, and negotiations know how as a sales manager to the table day 1. This would allow me to quickly become a contributing member to the Council. More importantly, my proven ability to work with all stakeholders will position me well to identify high priority needs of the community and garner resources to address them.

Provide one or two examples of when you have been an advocate for Ward 3 in your personal life. What was the result?

Upon relocating to Jackson, I’ve been exploring small business opportunities to buy or start in Jackson. It’s my belief that a well-run business would be successful in an underserviced community like Ward 3.

In the past year or so what was the most important vote the Jackson City Council has taken for Ward 3? How would you have voted and why? What is the most pressing issue for Ward 3 currently facing the city council?

I think the most important ordinance or act by the council has been putting the 1% sales tax increase for infrastructure improvements. In economic development, perception is everything. Businesses do not want to locate in communities that are constantly on the front page of the newspaper for infrastructure problems. Clearly, I support the need to find the funds to fix Jackson problems but I too would look closely at both revenue and spending. There has to be a balance.

In my discussions with the citizens of Ward 3, the most pressing issues are more focused on their daily lives and needs. Many wonder if anyone is listening to their concerns about their inconsistent water bills and the indifference they feel when they voice their concerns. Primarily, they feel disenfranchised and overlooked.

If you could propose one ordinance that would greatly improve the quality of life for people of Ward 3, what would it be?

If possible, I would pass a series of ordinances to manage juvenile delinquency. However, coordinated social services and community engagement must be in place to make any ordinance effective and enforceable.

I too would support an ordinance to streamline and fast track city services that support small businesses. We could benchmark the best practices in the country and aim to have Jackson ranked in the top tier of cities to conduct and incubate new businesses.

If you are not successful in winning the Ward 3 race, how would you support the elected council member of Ward 3?

I would offer my support as a volunteer on any committee where I could add value and continue to pursue a small business opportunity.
