What was described as an 'active shooter' at Mississippi State University is in custody, according to the school's official Twitter feed for emergency and advisory information.

MSU spokesman Sid Salter also confirmed to The Associated Press that the person had been arrested. Salter declined to give AP any further information.

MSU advised students to remain sheltered even after it reported the person's arrest. The school said on Twitter that classes were suspended until 2 p.m.

Earlier, MSU Alert reported that there was a shooter at Carpenter Hall; the shooter was then reported near Lee Hall and university officials advised people to seek safety.

Another alert from MSU Alert later stated that no injuries had been reported nor are there yet reports of shots fired.

Several news outlets are reporting that local schools are also currently on lockdown.
