House GOP: Send National Guard, Speed Removals

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Republicans want to send National Guard personnel to the nation's southern border to speed removal of unaccompanied young migrants.

The recommendations Wednesday from a working group established by House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'nuhr) put the House on a collision course with the Democrat-controlled Senate.

A Senate bill would spend $2.7 billion to address the border crisis but doesn't include any of the policy changes embraced by the House GOP.

Congresswoman Kay Granger, who led Boehner's working group, says that amending current law to allow speedier return of the Central American youths can be done while ensuring proper protections of the unaccompanied minors. Democrats say it would put the kids at risk by sending them back to brutal gangs.
