Residents Say Sinkhole's Gotten Bigger

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Residents of a north Jackson neighborhood say a sinkhole has gotten bigger over the past two weeks.

And local residents say despite barricades being in place, a 6-year-old boy had to be rescued from the water-filled hole Saturday after apparently riding his bicycle into it. The child suffered scrapes and bruises.

Residents say the boy was riding through what he thought was a puddle of water not a hole.

Residents say the sinkhole began forming last Wednesday and grew bigger throughout the week. They said Jackson Public Works came out on Friday and placed two orange tents on either side of the hole but workers have not been back.

Local residents say they want the city to make the repairs a priority in a neighborhood where kids are constantly playing.
