Gov. Phil Bryant to Lead Energy Board

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant has been named chairman of the Southern States Energy Board.

Bryant, a Republican who took office in January, will succeed outgoing chairman and Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin. Bryant will serve a one-year term.

The nonprofit board was established in 1960 to enhance economic development and the quality of life in the South through innovations in energy and environmental policies, programs and technologies. The board comprises 16 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Bryant's selection was announced Monday during the group's 52nd annual meeting in Oklahoma City.
