Cooper-Stokes Wins Ward 3 Runoff

Unofficial results of yesterday's Ward 3 runoff election are in and show LaRita Cooper-Stokes edged out opponent Joyce Jackson for the City Council seat.

According to the Hinds County website, Cooper-Stokes took 1,029 votes to Jackson's 951 to win the seat her husband, Kenneth Stokes, vacated when he was elected to the Hinds County Board of Supervisors.

Neither candidate was available for interview this morning.

Man, look how close that was. Still, predictable. We'll all hope that Ms. Cooper-Stokes will be more present than Ms. Stokes. Hopefully, she will turn out to be a great councilwoman for Ward 3.

I know LaRita Cooper-Stokes. She is a true lady. She is also sensitive to the issues that matter most to her constituents, and smart and caring enough to consider the viewpoints of others. She'll make a fine councilwoman.
