Students will need to get two chicken pox vaccines this year.

Students enrolled in Magnolia State schools will need to have had two chicken pox vaccines when they begin classes this fall. Known as the varicella vaccine, the requirement was waived in 2008 because of low availability, reports WAPT.

State Department of Health Officials said that the vaccine is available at health department clinics and Vaccines for Children providers throughout Mississippi for $10.

New students will also need to provide certified copies of their birth certificates. Parents can obtain an application for in-state birth certificate copies from their county health department or by calling 601-576-7981.

WAPT also reports that immunization records for most children and many adults are available for parents and qualified professionals through the MSDH Immunization Registry program. For more information on the program or on immunizations in general, call 1-866-HLTHY4U (1-866-458-4948).
