Gulfport Mayor Brent Warr and his wife, Laura Jean Warr, were indicted today on charges of fraud stemming from false claims the couple filed after Hurricane Katrina.

A federal grand jury indicted the Warrs on 16 counts for conspiring to defraud the federal government, committing FEMA fraud, stealing government funds and committing mail and wire fraud. According to the indictment, the couple's applications for disaster assistance listed as their residence a home where they did not live.

If convicted, the Warrs could face up to 200 years in prison and as much as $4 million in fines. They were released today on bail and are scheduled to appear in court on April 6.
