I attended the funeral services of the grandmother of a young female officer who had just flown in from Baghdad; this soldier had about 2 remaining mos. to serve. My friend pushed back tears as she made the comparision of her grandmother's funeral to the men and women killed in Iraq. She went on to say, "At least we have all of mama's body parts and I can identify her face." She labored over the conditions of Americans but was even more devastated over what she called the indiscriminate killing of Iriqi innocent men, women and children "hundreds of thousands." This young soldier said that what we see here does not in any way compare with what is really going on in Iraq. My friend's last comment was, "I don't know how long or how many of us this president is willing to sacrifice for a reason I have yet to understand." I wished her well as I delt with the erie feeling that this could be our last meeting.
