If the $10-$15 weekend cover charge for the regional favorites at 930 Blues Café is too hard on your budget you might just try the no cover Mondays and Tuesdays at 930. The Tuesday night Blues jam now features Bernard Jenkins and the Kickers each Tuesday from 8-10 p.m. You can catch the one and only Ironing Board Sam for lunch at 930 Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at happy hour from 5:30 to 8 p.m. every weekday. So if your downtown and your job is giving you the blues you know what's up. Another Tuesday treat this month has two of Jackson's hottest musicians joined forces for a R&B Jazz Jam with eZra Brown and Henry Rhodes at the Executive Place every Tuesday this month.
On Saturday night Brian Fuente will bring his band back to the Hal & Mal's Red Room. The equally debonair Misha Hercules will take a break from honing his new line up to open the show with an unplugged acoustic set. It should be an interesting show to see Misha let his Eve 6 guitar rock down to see the songwriting in a more intimate arrangement.
The new season of Jazz, Blues and More at the historic Alamo Theatre on Farish street kicks off this Friday at 7:30 p.m. $5. The third Friday each month The Musicians will feature Sherrill Holly on Saxophones; Kermit Holly on Piano; guitarist Reese Powell; Willie Silas on Drums; Bernard Holly on Bass. The all-new vocalists include Angela Walls-Gray, Pamela Confer, George Jackson and Bobby Smith.
Other shows to consider this week include the newly electrified bluegrass stylings of the Broken String Band with Scott Albert Johnson sitting in on harp at Martin's on Saturday. Splendid Chaos will rock out Headliner's all weekend. Fast Cars and Sex will feature a new lineup Friday night at W.C. Don's. Next Wednesday, Fenian's will bring back the traditional Irish/Celtic duo Four Schillings Short with an amazing assortment of non-traditional instruments.
