2004 State of the City Address - August 31, 2004 - 5:30 p.m. Mayor Johnson invites you to the 2004 State of the City Address this Tuesday, August 31, 2004. The Address will be held at Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center located at 528 Bloom Street at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Johnson's address will touch on some of the progress that has been made in the past year and a few of the upcoming goals for the City of Jackson. Renovation of the Electric Building Begins, Will Include Luxury Apartments, Retail Shops & Office Space
A $16 million renovation to the Electric Building on Pearl Street in downtown Jackson began this week. Duckworth Realty is heading up this private development that will include a number of luxury apartments on the top two floors of the 77-year-old building, a rooftop terrace, office space, and retail outlets on the bottom floors. Construction should be complete in September 2005. "This project is a perfect fit in downtown," said Mayor Johnson. "Given the unprecedented number of public and private projects transforming the area, this renovation will certainly contain elements, such as the apartments and retail outlets, that will contribute to a vibrant downtown atmosphere."
