Call for Artists: Mississippi Museum of Art

April 10-12 is the Mississippi Museum of Art's "A Mississippi Celebration." The three day symposium features events celebrating the culture of Mississippi, such as workshops, demonstrations, live music, and an art bazaar.

The Art Bazaar is a sidewalk art sale in the breezeway between the Museum and Thalia Mara. The Museum is offering 10'x10' spaces to local artists free of charge on a first-come first-served basis. If you would like to participate contact Robin Dietrick at 601-960-1515 or email her at rdietrick@msmuseumart.org Make sure to give your full-name, mailing address, and email address.

Another part of "A Mississippi Celebration" is their Three by Five Exhibition. Index-sized works of art created for the museum by Mississippi artists in 1982 will hang alongside new artwork by Mississippi artists in the lobby of the museum April 10-12. All Mississippi artists are eligible to participate, and any medium meeting the 3"x5" size requirement will be considered for inclusion. All artwork must be received by April 1 for consideration. Make sure to write your name, address, title of work and medium on the back of your art. You may hand-deliver your work or mail it to Mississippi Museum of Art, Attn: Robin, 380 S. Lamar St., Jackson, MS 39201. Once your work is submitted it becomes property of the museum.

Call for Artists: Arts, Eats, and Beats 2008

Art Eats and beats has just been announced with three bands, art market, and a NEW SPOT! They are going to cut off N. State St. this year in front of Kolbs cleaners and let the stage and art market go right in the middle of downtown Fondren. Email Josh Hailey at josh@joshhaileystudio.com if you want to exhibit so they can get a head count. The event is FREE and they usually have a thousand or more people attend.

Call for Entries: George Ohr National Challenge

After two years post-Katrina as a regional show, the George Ohr National Challenge, a highly visible juried exhibit and strong sales show for artists, returns to the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES—BY JPEG AND DISC ONLY—IS JUNE 1 AT 5 P.M. Jurors are: James Tanner for 3D and Ron Pokrasso for 2D. There are $4,000 in awards, including $1,000 Best in Show Award for Ceramics and $1,000 Best in Show Award for Two-Dimensional Work.

The entry fee is $20 for up to three jpegs, which may be emailed to Trish Lawrence, 228.374.5546, studio@georgeohr.org A registration form is also online at www.georgoehr.rg

The exhibit opens September 19 and runs through November 7 at the museum’s transitional location, 1596 Glenn Swetman St., Biloxi.
