- The city of Jackson offers child care services for ages six weeks to 4 years at Jones Early Childhood Development Center (2050 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive), and ages 1-4 at Virden Early Childhood Development Center (3159 Edwards Ave.) and Westside Early Childhood Development Center (1450 Wiggins Road). Register weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at either location. Bring items such as proof of income, proof of residency, a birth certificate and immunization records; call for a complete list of documents.

- Jackson Bike Advocates' Epic Bike Weekend

- May 24, join the bike ride from Rainbow Grocery to the Mississippi Museum of Art’s Art Garden to attend Screen on the Green. May 25 is the annual Alleycat Bike Race and Scavenger Hunt; the after-party at Sneaky Beans features music from Overnight Lows and Bloodbird. May 26, participate in the bike polo match with bike polo enthusiasts from Mobile, Memphis, Little Rock and New Orleans. May 27, take a bike ride to Julep for brunch. Helmets encouraged.

- "Don’t Let Your Summer Be a Bummer" Karate Camp

- Reservoir Karate teaches the class Mondays and Thursdays at Liberty Baptist Church (5199 Lakeland Drive, Flowood) from 6:15-7:30 p.m., and Tuesdays from 6:15-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:15-10:30 a.m. at the Reservoir YMCA (6023 Lakeshore Drive, Brandon). The camps ends with a karate demonstration at Liberty Baptist Church. Fee includes a T-shirt, food and a certificate. Income-based sponsorships available.
