The Museum of Art, first established in 1977 as the C. W. Woods
Art Gallery and later expanded in 1997 by The Mississippi Institute of Higher Learning Board of Trustees.
The museum presents a wide range of regional to international and historical to contemporary artwork, and provides a forum for education and discussion by hosting lectures, workshops and symposia by leading artists, critics, curators and historians. The museums mission is to enrich the educational and cultural experience of the university community and provide outreach to people beyond the university. The Museum of Art is composed of three galleries: the C. W. Woods Art Gallery, Lok Exhibition Gallery, the newly named Karnes-Sullivan Gallery. Since its establishment, the museum has become one of the most heavily attended museums in the state, attracting over 20,000 visitors annually.
The Museum of Art exhibits works on loan from artists,museums and galleries and exhibits student and faculty work. The museum also manages two traveling exhibitions: the nationally-recognized photography exhibition The Faces of Freedom Summer: The Photographs of Herbert Randall and Drawing on Katrina: Mississippi Children Respond to the Storm, a collection of 40 framed drawings, paintings and collages by south Mississippi children. An important component of the museum’s mission is to provide a platform for education and discussion of art and culture.

The Museum is located in the Fine Arts Building between Marsh Auditorium and the Manonni Performing Arts Center. Metered parking s available on Southern Miss Drive in front of the Fine Arts Building.

Sat, May 26, 8:00 am - Registration is at 7 a.m., and lunch is at 12:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity's community service programs.
