"Legacy of Timbuktu: Wonders of the Written Word"
Jan 1 – Dec 30.
In the last millennium an important global legacy was uncovered: the literate culture of Africa. This legacy lives in the extraordinary richness of historical manuscripts that still survive. The companion exhibit “Islamic Moorish Spain: Its Legacy to Europe and the West” can be seen in the new museum gallery.

"The Mississippi Story"

Comprised of artwork from the Museum's permanent collection, The Mississippi Story reveals the remarkable history of visual arts in the Magnolia State. The installation includes more than 200 objects and is divided thematically into four sections: Mississippi's Landscape, Mississippi's People, Life in Mississippi and Exporting Mississippi's Culture.

"Just Dance" Call for Entries
Oct 5 – Apr 30.
To commemorate the International Ballet Competition's return to Jackson, the Greater Jackson Arts Council is calling for entries to its juried invitational in media such as painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, film/video, mixed media and installation. Only photos, digital prints or digital files will be accepted; no slides or original artwork. Artists may submit up to three entries. Samples will not be returned. Contact the GJAC for official entry forms.

The Lauren Rogers Museum has acquired approximately 75 works of art by gift, purchase and bequest since 2003. The exhibit is in the Lower Level Galleries.

Jim Henson's Fantastic World
Dec 19 – Mar 14.
This exhibit offers a rare glimpse into the imagination and creative genius of the multi-talented innovator and creator of beloved characters like Kermit the Frog, Big Bird, and hundreds of others. From the beginning, the Mississippi-native expressed his ideas in incredible bursts of invention, through a variety of visual forms, clever dialogue, songs, comic bits, and animation. This exhibition presents original artwork, including drawings and cartoons, as well as other objects like puppets and movie props, all of which reveal the brilliant mind of their creator.

"Light on Water"

Icons of the Permanent Collection

"Backyards and Beyond"

The traveling exhibition of over 80 paintings and sculptures by well acclaimed Mississippi artist H.C. Porter is paired with audio recordings. The focus of the exhibition is life after Hurricane Katrina on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Proceeds benefit the non-profit organization Backyards and Beyond. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday.

The MFMBA Wine and Cheese Arts Gala This April 3rd, 2010, Mac’s Cove Designer Fashion is hosting the Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Association (MFMBA) Wine and Cheese Arts Gala. The MFMBA was founded in 1976 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the mission of offering financial assistance to burn victims who truly need our help to overcome some of the hardships a serious injury presents. In efforts to highlight Mississippi artists and designers as well as raise monetary donations for the MFMBA, the event will consist of performances by a string quartet and Mac’s Cove Designer Fashion pieces will be showcased in a "live art" exhibit! Also, a wine/ champagne fountain will be in the mist of all the entertainment as well as gourmet hor'dourves, lavish dishes prepared by Chef Christopher Banks, All proceeds benefit the MFMBA.
