Art Therapy For Cancer Patients

in the Activities Room of the Hederman Cancer Center on Wednesdays. The classes are designed to help cancer patients and provide an outlet to express feelings, reduce stress, assist in pain management, help build positive coping skills and increase self-discovery and self-awareness. Art supplies are included. Registration is required.

Storytellers Ball Juried Exhibition Call for Art
Feb 24 – Jun 14.
The Greater Jackson Arts Council seeks artwork in preparation for the Aug. 9 Storytellers Ball. This year's theme is "Blame It On the Blues." The deadline for entry form and digital images is June 14. The exhibition is July 17-Aug. 31. The opening reception is July 17 from 6-8 p.m. and also includes works from Sharon McConnell-Dickerson, Sandra Murchison and Ken Murphy.

Two-Month Exhibit Highlights Mississippi Gulf Coast

Gulf Coast photographer Lyle Peterzell and Ceramic Artist Kris Byrd's "Our Beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast...A Way of Life," exhibit is now showing at the Mississippi Library Commision, which is located at 3881 Eastwood Drive, in the Education & Research Center in Jackson.

Inaugural Cedars Juried Art Exhibition Call for Artists

The Fondren Renaissance Foundation seeks artwork to feature in their annual exhibit Sept. 4-28. Artist William Dunlap is the juror; awards given. Artists may submit up to three pieces, and all work must be for sale. The deadline is July 14. Call for entry guidelines.

Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival Poetry Contest

Gospel Music Workshop

Hear from Mississippi’s best and learn some tips of the trade during the Gospel Music Workshop on Friday, June 1, 2012 at St. Luther M.B. Church, located at 1040 Banks Street off the Parkway by Jackson State University. Registration starts at 6 p.m. The workshop is part of the Gospel Artist Showcase weekend. Talent who participate in the showcase may have a chance to perform during the Jackson Music Awards on July 29th. Featured instructors include David Curry Jr. of the Mississippi Mass Choir, Stevie Jordan of St. Luther M.B. Church, Cynthia Goodloe Palmer of Canton Gospel Music Association, Daniel Powell from St. Paul AME Zio Church, Chandra Wise of New Jerusalem Church, plus moderator Minister Ben Cone III and special guest Pastor Melvin Jones, former radio personality and record promoter out of Memphis, TN.
