[The Slate] The Best In Sports In 7 Days

by Doctor S
November 12, 2008

Thursday, Nov. 13
College football, Virginia Tech at Miami (6:30 p.m., ESPN): Since you won’t watch the MLS playoffs, this battle of ACC also-rans is your best alternative.

Friday, Nov. 14
High school football, Jackson Prep vs. MRA in MPSA AAA, Division I championship (7 p.m., Mississippi College, Clinton, 970 AM): The rampaging Patriots from Flowood aim to crown another perfect season with a state title. And they will.

Saturday, Nov. 15
College football, Mississippi State at Alabama (6:45 p.m., Tuscaloosa, Ala., ESPN/105.9 FM): The Bulldogs go for their third straight victory against The Crimson Tide. Unfortunately for State, Bama is unbeaten and ranked No. 1 this year. … Men’s college basketball, Millsaps at Belhaven (7 p.m., Jackson): The Majors and Blazers battle for the mythical — but, oh so important — JFP Cup at Rugg Arena.

Sunday, Nov. 16
NFL football, New Orleans at Kansas City (noon, Ch. 40/620 AM): The Saints try to get back to .500 against the NFL’s second-worst team. But remember, these are the Saints. … Dallas at Washington (7:15 p.m., Ch. 3): The Cowboys are fighting for their playoff lives.

Monday, Nov. 17
Junior college basketball, Northwest Mississippi at Hinds (women, 6 p.m., and men, 8 p.m., Utica): The Rangers and Rangerettes invade southern Hinds County. Do juco players still dunk during pre-game warm-ups? … NFL football, Cleveland at Buffalo (7:30 p.m., ESPN/930 AM): The Browns and Bills are both desperate, so this could be entertaining.

Tuesday, Nov. 18
College basketball, Belhaven at Wesley (women, 5 p.m., men, 7 p.m., Florence): The Blazers head to Rankin County for a doubleheader.

Wednesday, Nov. 19
Men’s college basketball, North Alabama at Mississippi State in Legends Tournament (7 p.m., Starkville, 105.9 FM): If the Bulldogs can’t beat a Division II team, this will be a long, long season. … College football, Ball State at Central Michigan (6 p.m., ESPN2): The Cardinals and Chippewas face off in a crucial MAC West showdown.

The Slate is compiled by Doctor S in his penthouse atop the JFP Tower.

[Editor's Note] Love Thy Neighbor
Izzy: it's not enough to just study something - at some point you have to act. Systematic exclusion can be read as hatred, even when those involved in it do not feel it to be that. This is ...

J.T.: Wintrhop, your last sentence "I don't want a small and manageable God. I prefer one that I can't fully understand." bears out that we each have perceptions of God. And, when the ...

[Editor's Note] Love Thy Neighbor
Izzy: I wouldn't be too sure your church doesn't preach hate if your liturgy is not gender-inclusive. Think about it - is God really a "He" or a "Father"? Those are some images or visions of ...
