[The Slate] The Best In Sports In 7 Days

by Doctor S
November 11, 2009

Thursday, Nov. 12
High school football, Jackson Prep vs. Jackson Academy in MAIS AAA- Division I championship (7 p.m., Mississippi College, Clinton, 970 AM, 930 AM): It seems like these two play in the final every year. JA won the regular-season game.

Friday, Nov. 13
High school football, Callaway at New Hope in MHSAA Class 5A playoffs (7 p.m., Columbus): The Chargers were the only JPS team to make the playoffs. How long will they stick around? … Starkville at Madison Central in Class 6A playoffs (7 p.m., Madison, 105.9 FM): The top-ranked Jaguars had an impressive regular season, but this is the first game that really counts.

Saturday, Nov. 14
College football, Tennessee at Ole Miss (11 a.m., Oxford, Ch. 12, 97.3 FM): Vols assistant head coach Ed Orgeron returns to the scene of his head-coaching crimes. … Alabama at Mississippi State (6 p.m., Starkville, ESPN, 970 AM, 105.9 FM): Can the Bulldogs wreck the third-ranked Crimson Tide's season? SEC officiating conspiracy theorists say no.

Sunday, Nov. 15
NFL football, New Orleans at St. Louis (noon, Ch. 40, 620 AM): The unbeaten Saints really will play the Lambs this week. This game makes Doctor S nervous.

Monday, Nov. 16
NFL football, Baltimore at Cleveland (7:30 p.m., ESPN, 930 AM): How bad is the Browns' offense? The Saints' defense has scored as many touchdowns (seven) as Cleveland's offense.

Tuesday, Nov. 17
Men's college basketball, Belhaven at Millsaps (7 p.m., Jackson): The Blazers call on the Majors in the latest installment of the Riverside Drive Rivalry.

Wednesday, Nov. 18
NBA basketball, Los Angeles Clippers at Memphis (7 p.m., Fox Sports South): Will Allen Iverson be back on the Grizzlies' bench? Iverson says he's never been a bench player. I guess he forgot about last season when he played for the Detroit Pistons. The Slate is compiled by Doctor S, who never met a conspiracy theory he didn't like.

St. Louis will beat the who dat out of the Saints this weekend. This dang luck can't continue. The Colts and Saints will fall, finally.

I have been a little bit off on my bets as it regards the Saints and Colts. At last, I'll confess, both of them looks great. That come back by the Colts was impressive.

However, since the Lawd is a Pittsburg Steelers' fan, he can if he so pleases to, still allow the Steelers to win the whole thang again. Steeler fans, let's pray!

I missed the Cincinatti/Pittsburg game because I was in Kansas City, the city the Cowboys almost lost to 3 weeks or so ago. I had planned to send Itodd a jersey from there, but the Cowboys' come back precluded that generosity. When I finally saw Pittsburg had lost to Cincinatti again I cried and finally realized we're not better than everyone else any more. Cincinatti didn't only win the game but beat us up too. I hope they have a plane crash next week! And I hope it's the Colts and/or Saints they crash into. I ain't mad, sad or disappointed thouh.

Needless to say, as I walked thru the Jackson-Evers Airport and saw Green Bay leading the Cowboys 17-0, my spirit was raised and I felt like the bold and bragging person I always was. That is until the Colts came back and made me sick again.

YAYYYY Peyton for making the Cowboys-hating Walt sick!!! :-)

That was a great game on Sunday night, though many folks like me turned away when it started to get out of hand. I tuned in a little later for curiosity's sake and saw that the Colts came within six points and I stayed glued to it for the rest of the way.
