You can watch a feed of the debate here at jacksonfreepress.com, as well as on the Web site of television sponsor, 16 WAPT, which will also broadcast the debate on Channel 16-2. It will begin at 7 p.m. Moderator Scott Simmons will use questions submitted by Jackson residents; please submit your questions below, or e-mail them to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). We suggest open-ended rather than yes-or-no questions. Candidates and other sponsors will not see the questions chosen in advance of the debate.

There will be a limited number of tickets for the live audience, most of which will be distributed by the Jackson Free Press. If you would like a ticket to the events, please send an e-mail to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to get on the waiting list. (No phone calls about tickets, please.) Please include your ward number in your e-mail, as we wish to have voters from all wards present. You will be notified if tickets are available and how to pick them up, and will be asked for proof of address.

This debate, and a follow-up one before the general election, is also sponsored by Jackson Progressives, Jackson 2000, Leadership Jackson Alumni. Rules for the debate will be posted shortly.

More Debate Information:

16 WAPT News, The Jackson Free Press, Leadership Jackson Alumni Group, Jackson Progressives and Jackson 2000 are sponsoring a Jackson Mayoral Primary Debate on Thursday, April 23. It's for the Democratic Candidates who will appear on the primary ballot on May 5th.

The Debate starts at 7pm and features four rounds of questions:

The first round will be questions from the Moderator, 16 WAPT News Anchor Scott Simmons. The second round will be questions from voters submitted to 16 WAPT News and the Jackson Free Press. Who answers which question will be determined by a lottery drawing. In the third round of questions, each candidate can answer his or her favorite question from the previous two rounds. In the final round of questions, each candidate can ask another candidate a question. There is no limit to the amount of questions a candidate can be asked in this round. The questions will not be made available to the candidates before the debate. The Moderator may ask follow up questions to a candidate.

You can watch the debate on http://www.wapt.com, http://www.jacksonfreepress.com or on 16 WAPT's second digital channel—6-2 (also channel 208 on Comcast Cable.)

We need your questions for the candidates. You can send those by email to: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) (this is also the email address to ask for tickets to the debate, which will be held at the Jackson Convention Complex.) Please include which ward you live in and whether or not you are associated with a mayoral campaign.

Will you have it where it can be seen afterwards? April 23 is an extremely busy evening for our clan.

I'm hoping it can either be archived or re-broadcast at a later time. Am discussing with WAPT.

That would be great. We have two kid related activities that night, and I would love to see the debate.

They're free while they last. Write Jackson Breland in our office to get on the list. Include your ward number (as we are distributing the tickets over all the wards as equally as possible).

If you are associated with a campaign, you must tell us that.

What are you going to do about Melton? He will not show up as he has said he will not participate in any public forums. I think you should prepare a place for him with a nameplate and make it very obvious to the viewing public that he is afraid to appear in public and answer questions about his failed four years as mayor. Will you folks have the courage to do this???

It doesn't take a lot of courage to make a nameplate, wellington.

Remember who you're talking to here. Four years ago, I wrote an editor's note about what he did, and didn't do, at the Jackson Association of Neighborhood forum I moderated.
