Hmmm. When you poke just a little at Barbour's history on and attitudes about pardoning criminalseven men like Cory Maye who shot a police officer who burst into his home in the middle of the nightyou see that, in the past, Barbour hasn't "believed" in pardons. Per Reason magazine:
Hope for a pardon or clemency seems dim. Aides to Gov. Haley Barbour, a Republican, have indicated both publicly and privately that Barbour doesnt believe in pardons or clemency, even for people he thinks are innocent. Apparently he doesnt even bother to read pardon petitions. Of course, theres a chance that someone else will occupy the governors mansion by the time Maye nears an execution date.
So, why the sudden change of heart in recent weeks, as he has either suspended the sentence of or pardoned at least three men accused of brutally murdering wives or girlfriends? Why now?
And while I'm asking questions, why hasn't the state's media pick up on Ronni Mott and Sophie McNeil's breaking story last week that the scandal involves at least three domestic killers, not just Graham on the Coast? Is this lazy reporting, or do they fear a huge anti-Barbour scandal (considering that most of the state's media have presided in his back pocket, to date)?
CBS News reported the additional domestic murders within days of the JFP revealing it; why not other state media?

I think it's the latter.
