So Long, Steve
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair announced Thursday that he's retiring after 13 seasons in the NFL. McNair, a Mount Olive native, was a legend and Heisman Trophy candidate at Alcorn State before being taken in the first round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers. He moved to Tennessee with the team and led the Titans to the Super Bowl in 1999. He was named the NFL co-MVP in 1999. Injuries have taken their toll on McNair in recent years. He was traded to the Ravens in 2005.

Sad that despite the hype he earned from entertaining Alcorn fans (and the heartburn he gave JSU fans) running up the scoreboard during his college years, he was never able to live up to the premise that he would become another NFL legend from Miss. on par with Brett Farve and Peyton Manning. May have been wishful thinking on our part. But he still will be remembered as a SWAC legend and another member of Mississippi’s sizable roster of college athletes turned pro.

Those Mannings (Peyton and Eli) aren't from Mississippi. Their sorry daddy is unfortunately in my eyes!

I didn't really mean Manning was from MS, but I included him because as top NFL QBs he and his brother Eli are often mentioned in these parts because of their daddy.

Fat Harry, did you see Archie play in the NFL with great players of multiple races? The word "sorry" aptly and appropriately describes his play at that level. That Jim Crow football at Ole Miss which many of you were fooled by proved nothing to me about his prowess as a football player.
