Peter Sharp says his bed and breakfast is the "home for romance."

Sharp owns and operates the Fairview Inn, in Jackson's Belhaven neighborhood, with his wife Tamar.

Sharp, who was born in Bromley, Kent, in England, moved with his family to Pennsylvania when he was 14.

After he graduated from Florida International University with a degree in hotel management in 1981, Sharp worked in the hotel business for 35 years before he and Tamar decided they wanted to run their own place. The couple purchased the Fairview Inn in 2006 and, since then, opened Sophia's Restaurant and nomiSpa.

"We've created an environment where it's an all-around experience," Sharp said. "We've opened up more to accepting a lot more guests for all different types of events."

Select Registry, an organization that represents more than 400 boutique hotels and bed and breakfasts, recently named Sharp the 2012 Innkeeper of the Year.

According to a statement, Select Registry gives its Innkeeper of the Year award to members who have made significant contributions to the organization and to their communities. Sharp has been president of the Bed and Breakfast Association of Mississippi for three years, and has also served on the boards of the Mississippi Hotel Association and the Mississippi Tourism Association.

The Sharps are members of the Beth Israel Congregation, and Peter chaired the celebration of Beth Israel's 150th anniversary last year.

JFP readers voted to give the Fairview Inn several Best of Jackson 2012 awards, including naming it the best place to get married. The inn also hosted the cast of "The Help" while they [url=http://www.loungelist.com/photo/albums/the-help-films-in-fondren]filmed scenes in Jackson.

Although the Fairview Inn and Sophia's are booked solid for Valentine's Day, Sharp says the inn is a great place to "splurge for your significant other" throughout the year, whether that means dinner or Sunday brunch at Sophia's, a trip to the spa for a massage or a suite with a fireplace and Jacuzzi tub.

The Fairview Inn is at 734 Fairview St. For information, call 601-948-3429 or visit fairviewinn.com.
