Making Weekend Plans?

File Photo
Roll out early Saturday for the best, freshest Mississippi produce.

June 26, 2009

It's Friday, y'all, and you know what that means: It's time for weekend planning. As always, the Jackson Free Press is here to let you know what's happening, who's in town and where the "don't miss" events are taking place.

Kick off the weekend by taking the family to the Kirk Fordice Equine Center for a special Appaloosa performance night benefiting the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children. Admission is a toy or cash donation. If horses just aren't your thing, there's plenty more to choose from. Every day, events editor Vince Falconi brings you his Best Bets, and tonight is no exception. Choose from “Meet Me at Luigi’s,” dinner theater, or an '80s and '90s party in honor of your high school reunion.

Still not interested? Check the JFP Events Calendar or the Music Listings to find a play, book signing, or your favorite DJ or live band.

Beat the heat Saturday by rolling out early for fresh local produce. It's the right time for the Mississippi Farmer's Market, the Greater Belhaven Market and the Congress Street Market, starting at 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., respectively. Later, head to the United Way Day of Action Rally, the ACLU of Mississippi's 40th Anniversary crawfish boil, or a special performance by Renita Martin at New Stage Theater brought to you by the Unita Blackwell Young Women’s Leadership Institute.

Start your Sunday on a civilized note with brunch and tunes at Fitzgerald's, Sophia's or Two Sisters. Then extend your lazy day with a visit to the Mississippi Museum of Art, or take in a matinee performance of "Moon Over Buffalo" at the Actor's Playhouse in Pearl.

Need more info? Check the JFP Events Calendar and the Music Listings. To get your event listed, send an e-mail to , or submit your own here. It's easy!

As always, don't forget to peruse the JFP Restaurant Guide and the Menu Guide to find the best eats in Jackson.

Izzy: it's not enough to just study something - at some point you have to act. Systematic exclusion can be read as hatred, even when those involved in it do not feel it to be that. This is ...

Izzy: I wouldn't be too sure your church doesn't preach hate if your liturgy is not gender-inclusive. Think about it - is God really a "He" or a "Father"? Those are some images or visions of ...
