Leslie Hall-Keeper of the Gems

I can't NOT TELL YOU anymore. Leslie Hall will be here in April. Yes, she will perform at Hal and Mal's. I am loving this woman.

Along the lines of "Ask a Ninja," she has created a ceWEBity status for herself. In fact, her site was featured on VH1's "Web Junk" last night, and she also stuck around for HILARIOUS commentary on all the other "Web Junk" winners.

Her comedy/music/passion started when as an art student, she decided to create a home for all those lost sparkly 80's sweaters. You know, the "Dynesty" looking ones, with the shoulder pads? Perhaps a V-neck or Turtleneck. She has rescued counting almost 200 of this piece of Americana, and she now uses her hip hop skills, absurdly clever humor and of course, her gems, to entertain and bring awareness to the art that is the "gem."

Here's some funny clips:

I love her. She's my new favorite. I hate she won't be here for the Chick Ball. She'd win "Shiniest Costume" for sure. Well, maybe that's a good thing, since I want to win and all. However, she WILL be at Hal and Mal's in April. More info as times are secured.

I want to donate a sweater. If I don't find one by then, I'll be sick, sick, sick. Ooooooo La La.

maybe we can MAKE one!!!

We would have to rescue an authentic 80's sweater first.

I don't have a Bedazzler :( I love how on Ring a Ding Ding, she tells the Bedazzler people that she can sell Bedazzlers to people who don't need them, can't afford them and don't have food on the table.

i know... there is another video of hers that is hilarious... i'm gonna see if i can find it and post it here.

let's see if this works:

Oh God. I love the glasses that shade in the sun :)

Fearless that girl.

And above should have been "Ring My Bell."

More info: The show will be held in the Red Room at Hal & Mal's on April 25, 2007 (unless we expect a massive crowd -- which is possible). It will start around 9pm. Doors will open at 8pm. Cover is $5.

Andi, Beatdazzler was my first introduction to Leslie. Love it! When we saw she was touring, Duane and I jumped at the opportunity to bring her bedazzled goodness to Jackson.

The SPQ's may have found a competitor in Leslie Hall for all things exaggerated and sparkly. I think her use of a keytar puts her in the lead. ;-)

Knol, that's awesome, thanks for bringing her here!! I agree -- anybody is instantly cooler if they get their hands on a keytar!

Here's an article from the Advocate that I just stumbled upon coincidentally.

I'll check... I'm thinking she's not on tour with it (because the RV is on its last leg) but will confirm.

I know everyone's wrapped up in the Melton Saga but wanted to remind everyone that Mother Gem, Leslie Hall, will be at the Red Room tomorrow night. 9pm. $5. Seriously, you won't want to miss this.

She's also appearing on MTV's TRL today.

Emily, you missed one of the best live shows I've seen in a while! Leslie rocked the Red Room. Don't worry though... We're already talking about bringing her back.

The crowd (nearly 140 people on a Wednesday!) was one of the most diverse crowds I've seen at a single show. There were business men in suits, Josh Hailey in gold spandex, indie rockers, queers, and hipsters.

There was even a gem sweater present! Leslie tortured its owner and then gave her an official Gem Sweater Museum certificate.

Joosy even got on stage and filled in for one of the Lys during the encore.

Hate you weren't able to make it. I'm sure Andi will tell you all about it.

posted by kaust on 04/26/07 at 06:22 AM

AHHHH it was the best time ever!! I have pics and things that will go up on my ... ahem... blog soon. It was good to see you Knol... sorry we didn't get to chat more. I told one of the Lys they HAVE to come back and she was enthusiastic. It would be awesome if we could get them back for Chick Ball '08?

posted by andi on 04/26/07 at 07:23 AM

Andi, they're booked for several weeks... They're definitely coming back. We've already talked to them about OUToberfest (in October) but they may come through before then. I could watch that show over and over and never tire of it.

I think Joosy should be hired as a Ly! I certainly OD'd on gold spandex last night.
