[Herman’s Picks] Vol. 6, No. 51

Courtesy Legacy
Local Irish roots band Legacy will play CelticFestSaturday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m.

Between sets at Martin’s Thursday, check out Los Papis and My Amigos Latin Jazz Quartet at Hal & Mal’s. Los Papis is an unplugged duo with members of Latinismo.

The Scissormen return to Martin’s Friday night, Sept. 12, for their CD release party. The raunchy, punk-fueled garage blues of the Scissormen goes well with their hard songs about the devil laughing, whiskey and Mary Jane. The liquor runs long at a Scissormen show. Visit Martin's for more info.

Tickets are going fast at Be-Bop for Corinth alternative rockers Saving Abel, with Endeverafter and Meriwether, at Hal & Mal’s, Friday, Sept. 12. You may know Saving Abel’s song “Addicted,” which hit No. 2 on the rock charts this spring. You can save a few bucks getting the tickets in advance at Be-Bop.

The grand opening for the B.B. King Museum in Indianola is Saturday, Sept. 13 with live music on the museum grounds and throughout town from noon to 9 p.m. Beginning at 7 p.m., check out the “throwdown” at Club Ebony for an additional $50. Dorothy Moore will sing the National Anthem for the Grand Opening. The Museum is located on Second Street at Sunflower, Indianola, MS. For info on the museum opening visit B.B. King Museum. You can catch King live in Bossier City Sept. 18; Beau Rivage Biloxi Sept. 19 and Pearl River Resort, Choctaw on Sept. 20. Buy your tickets at Events.

In other regional news; Rapids on the Reservoir closed last year, leaving the annual September Festival Latino without a home. They have found a new home at the Grand Paradise Water Park in Collins. Get your Latin on with Latinismo, the New-Orleans-based Vivaz and others, from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept 14. Call 601-299-0993 or 601-371-9009 for details. Cheers, and may the funk be with you.
