Help High School Journalism in Jackson

A high-school journalism revolution is coming in Jackson! Please click here to donate to the Jim Hill High School journalism program[/url]; they need $936 to buy basic supplies to get started. Also, please consider donating supplies (especially white paper, dry-erase markers and jump drives) to JAHSPA, the new Jackson Area High School Press Association. The Jackson Free Press is gathering the donations. E-mail , or drop stuff by the office.

Thanks, all!

Also, if you're a teacher or student involved in a high school journalism program in the jackson area, or want to be, please be in touch about getting involved with JAHSPA. We're here to help get you what you need! (Including training.)

I'll give a few bucks to this but not over the internet. I'll email the person named.

Walt, email me if you want more info about the Jim Hill link too :)

Donorschoose is a website that makes your donation tax-deductable. I've had several projects funded that way (mostly class sets of books.)

I know that particular Jim Hill proposal link includes enough AP stylebooks for the entire journalism class, several jump drives so they can upload information from one computer to another for printing (especially since we only have one functioning computer...and NO printer....in the classroom), a voice recorder for their interviews, a white board/calendar devoted just to their class to track stories and deadlines and much, much more.

I also have information that the Jim Hill journalism class has no textbooks, so the teacher is having to make lots and lots of photocopies to give them just the most basic information. It's also not unusualy for a journalism teacher/newspaper sponsor to teach many other classes in addtion to starting and maintaining a newspaper, so his or her resources are spread very thin.

It's a very credible website. My sister used it last year to fund give a small project of mine, and she got a tax deduction for her small business all at once ;)

Donations can be as little as a dollar. Those dollars add up.

And donorschoose only uses your name if you want them to on the "view donors" page. Otherwise, it says anyonymous. But you get a thank you all the same!

I sent a donation in money yesterday, Emily. Not sure if it goes to your program too. If it doesn't let me know. I like Jim Hill very much. Send me what you have on the Jim Hill link. I need to adopt a public school to aid anyway since my old high school, now called Madison Central, is a fat cat.
