George Street Once Again

Locals Jason and Shannon Cockrell, owners of Sam's Lounge, are the proud new owners of 416 George Street. They've been renovating the circa 1910 building, which once housed the George Street Grocery, since last October and have renamed it the Ole Tavern on George Street.

Don't worry, Sam's isn't closing, but the new space is currently open for business Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. After the holidays, they will be serving lunch and dinner. Here's what you can look forward to:

Downstairs:
* The bar/restaurant
* Four new flat screen plasma TVs and projection screen, all in DISH/HDTV complete with the sport packages.
* The projector TV is video and audio. which means you can watch your favorite sporting event in HD, or the band upstairs when it's too crowed.
* Two new mega touch bar-top games

Upstairs:
* bar
* stage for bands
* Two new mega touch bar/top games and new Deer hunter game
* satellite jukebox
* Two new flat screen plasma tvs in Dish/HDTV

Look for their new myspace page this week, or call 601-960-2700 for more info.

Woot! I hope this incarnation outlasts the former ones. And it will always be George St. to me.

It will always be George St. to me too. I’m sure glad to hear the place is reopening. Some of the best times I’ve had in Jackson were there.

Yeah, “Ole Tavern on George Street” is a mouth-full. With that name it will likely continue to be called “George Street” by everyone.
