Former JFP Intern Starts New Orleans Magazine

From Jessica Kinnison, one of our favorite former interns, and Jackson Prep graduate:

Dear Friends,

I am writing on behalf of Voix du Vieux / Voice of the Quarter, a New Orleans based monthly publication that serves as a forum for painters, photographers, poets, fiction writers and musicians. We started this project just over four months ago with the intention of doing our part
to help restore the rich and diverse culture of the Gulf Coast region.

Hurricane Katrina has destroyed thousands of homes, displaced hundreds of thousands of people, crippled local economies, and adversly affected our national economy. The storm has furthermore endangered a cradle of American cultural heritage. Many of our nation's greatest writers, musicians and painters were born or have lived and worked in the Gulf Coast region--Louis Armstrong, William Faulkner, Alexander John Drysdale, Tennessee Williams, Fats Domino, Eudora Welty, and Veau de Champ are but a few.

With the goal of helping to reestablish New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region to its place as one of America's most fertile areas for creative, spiritual, and artistic beauty, Voix du Vieux magazine publishes the work of regional artists and writers, holds benefits and helps promote local businesses that support the arts. There are many voices here that have much to say to the rest of our nation, and so I would like to expand our audience beyond New Orleans. If you could help us do that, please view our website ( http://www.voixduvieux.org ) and consider buying a subscription to Voix du Vieux. For every yearly susbcription we sell, we will donate $2.00, half of our profits, to Habitat for Humanity, while the profits we retain will go toward other humanitarian benefit events that we organize.

To subscribe, just go to our website and click on "Subscribe": http://www.voixduvieux.org

I thank you most sincerely for your consideration.

Best Wishes,

Jessica Kinnison and Ivan Eubanks
