Do GOOD Unto Others

Melissa Webster

November 19, 2008

No matter what your religious or spiritual philosophy, we can all agree that increasing the goodness of the world around us is a priority. The Jewish faithful practice Tikkun Olam—the belief that we must always look outside our selfish nature to serve each other and the greater community, and repair the greater world. The power to serve is within each of us and as we join together, the spirit of unity and healing will be strengthened. We can volunteer at homeless shelters, donate to charity, shop local, eat a simple meal for Thanksgiving, recycle and donate to a worthy cause as a Christmas gift. Regardless of how much (or how little) time or money we have, all these acts are attainable. Let’s make this holiday season a little more perfect by putting Tikkun Olam into practice.

For ideas and help for the holiday season, be sure to check out the JFP's new GOOD Blog, and research Jackpedia to look for local charities that need your help.
