11 a.m., Blood Pressure Checks for Seniors at Johnnie Champion Senior Center (1355 Hattiesburg St.). The City of Jackson's Department of Human and Cultural Services and the staff of St. Dominic Health Service's Care-A-Van outreach program provide blood pressure checks and information about cataracts to qualifying individuals ages 55 or older living within the city limits of Jackson. Havana Smoke Shoppe Grand Opening Aug 26-28, at Havana Smoke Shoppe (4760 Interstate 55 North Frontage Road, Suite F). The Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting is at 4 p.m. Aug. 26, the cookout with music by the Under Discussion Band is from 4-8 p.m. Aug. 27 and additional activities such as music by Johnny Crocker, appetizers by Olga's and door prizes are from 3-8 p.m. Aug. 28. 7:14 p.m., Seventh Annual Image Awards & Scholarship Banquet at Jackson Enterprise Center (931 Highway 80 W.). The Mu Sigma chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is the host. Friday, Aug. 27

Saturday, Aug. 28

7:30 a.m., Spiritual Pilgrimage to the Mississippi Delta at Jackson Medical Mall (350 W. Woodrow Wilson Ave.). The caravan will leave the mall and make stops at the Medgar Evers Home and Museum, the Republic of New Afrikan Headquarters, the Oakes African American Museum (Yazoo City), the gravesite of Fannie Lou Hamer (Ruleville), the Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center (Glendora) and other locations related to the fate of Emmett Till. Through Aug. 31

Project Redirectory Recycling Program. Telephone book recycling bins are located throughout the metro area, and you can schedule a pickup from your business if you have 50 books or more. Books may also be dropped off at Recycling Services (3010 N. Mill Street). Call 601-366-4842.

Center for Cultural Interchange Call for Hosting Families. CCI needs to place 1,000 foreign exchange students from more than 40 countries around the world for the 2010-2011 school year. All of the students to be placed are 15-18 years old and are proficient in English. The application deadline is Aug. 31. Call 800-634-4771.

NFL Youth Punt, Pass and Kick Competition Registration at Jackson Medical Mall (350 W. Woodrow Wilson Ave.). The competition is divided into four separate age divisions: 8-9 years old; 10-11 years old; 12-13 years old; and 14-15 years old. During registration, proof of age will be required. After-School Enhancement Program at Jackson Medical Mall (350 W. Woodrow Wilson Ave.). The City of Jackson Department of Parks and Recreation's program is Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Youth ages 7-12 may participate. Activities include studying and learning during homework sessions, listening to guest speakers, and participating in arts and crafts. Immunization compliance is required. Cancer Rehab Classes at Baptist Medical Center (1225 N. State St.), in the Activity Room of the Hederman Cancer Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2 p.m. The class helps cancer patients enhance cardiovascular strength, endurance, their immune system and bone density.
