College Football: Bad News For USM

Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis will miss the rest of the season after suffering a foot injury during last Thursday's loss to UAB. Martevious Young will start against Louisville on Saturday (6:30 p.m., Louisville, Ky., ESPNU, 1180 AM/103.3 FM).

Dammit!

I know. I felt the same way, golden when I learned about this yesterday.

Such a hard thing for both Austin and the Golden Eagle community.

But, my thinking is that it puts the ball in our court, as fans, to support our team now, more than ever. Particularly our now QB, Young. It will so tough on him to go into that stadium in Louisville Sat.

But when he and the team come back home to the Rock the next Sat, I hope we have the place filled to capacity to welcome them like heroes they all are.

And I pray for a speedy recovery for Davis, and Fletcher and Brown. When it rains it pours.

Southern Miss could still bear Ole Miss, the most overrated team in college football. Have faith, y'all!

Thanks, Walt.

These injuries help me remember that we just have to roll with the flow, specifically, in regard to the team and what they are dealing with this year, and generally, in regard to everything in our lives.

It will be interesting to see what Ole Miss does this weekend. I can't figure out whether they are really good and have just been off or they are over-rated. I have expected a lot more from them than they have delivered so far.

This may be the wrong blog for this congratulations to USM grad Brett Favre tonight: Vikings defeated the Packers and Favre accomplished something no other QB ever has: he has QB'd defeats of all the NFL teams.

He played like a kid, though he turns 40 soon. Though he's slow to make decisions--the consequence of which is that he is making a fortune in tv commercials--he's fast as a comet with that passing arm and as accurate as a computer guided missile. A joy to watch.
