CNN: Mississippi Agencies Took Katrina Supplies
So, just how can needy victims of Katrina on the Coast be screwed once again? Barbour diverts low-income housing money, and now this? The governor should stand up and tell us just how his administration let this happen while he was out pushing tort reform, supporting the insurance companies and protecting his tobacco companies from higher taxes here. Per CNN:
Prisons in Mississippi got coffee makers, pillowcases and dinnerware -- all intended for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
People check out the second story of a home sitting on the ground in Biloxi, Mississippi, after Katrina in 2005. The state's Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks took more coffee makers, cleaning supplies and other items. Plastic containers ended up with the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration. Colleges, volunteer fire departments and other agencies received even more. But the Mississippi hurricane victims who originally were intended to receive the supplies got nothing, a CNN investigation has found.
"It's scary to know that there are supplies that they are harboring and people [are] in need right now as we speak today," said Sharon Hanshaw, director of Coastal Women for Change, a nonprofit group helping storm victims.

If there was no outrage over the governor diverting Katrina funds to rebuild the Port of Gulfport, I don't expect outrage over this either. And isn't it ironic that that story got out after Barbour was re-elected?

I thought everybody, including Gov. Barbour himself, was praising to the high heavens the wonderful job he did in Katrina's aftermath under Barbour's leadership, compared to the "horrible" job of former Louisiana governor Blanco (not to mention NO Mayor Nagin). I remember Barbour, in a not-so-veiled jab at Democrat Blanco, saying something to the effect that: "we had the same FEMA that Louisiana had". Apparently, that ain't all we h.a.d.!
