Brett Favre - Make up Your Mind

Brett Favre wants to un-retire from the NFL. He just doesn't want to go back to the Packers. But the GM, Ted Thompson, wants Favre to come back as a backup QB to Aaron Rogers and Favre wants an unconditional release. Thompson won't grant him his wish. I could probably understand why. While Favre is still a viable QB, he is in his late 30s and on the downside of his career, while Rogers is in his mid-20s. Also, how many times has Favre held that team hostage over his plans to retire or come back?

As far as what teams he could go to, that's probably playing the most as the reason why Thompson won't give Favre an unconditional release. There are a couple of teams in his division, the Bears and Vikings, who could use a QB. Do you think Thompson or any Green Bay fan wants to see that happen? I do believe the Packers will allow Favre to be traded to another team. Most likely, he may end up going to an AFC team.

I think the man should do whatever it is he wants to do! The man can still play and people are riding him because of his age! I am 32 years old and he is in way better shape than I am! If he wants to play somewhere else, the Packers should grant him that. He has earned it! When he took over the reigns of the quarterback position for that organization, that stadium was practically empty! He has brought millions of dollars to that organization so that is the least they could do for him. In all fairness to Aaron Rogers - I know it is his "turn" and so does Brett. But I think it is unfair to "make" someone retire before their time - especially in a "entertainment" business such as the NFL! Good luck Brett and I support you 100%

IMHO, Brett should stay retired. He should have had an idea of what could happen when he did retire, and he should have asked himself, "Am I truly ready to give this up?" The Packers want Rogers to start, so he's not getting his starting job back. The Packers also have the right not to release him, and they are exercising that right. End of story.

So let me get this straight, you retire from your job, let's just say you work at wal-mart as whatever. You had a good year at the store you worked at, but you werent the best store in sales for the year! So you want to keep working, but you just don't want to be there anymore - so you retire, then you decide you want to maybe go work at Target - but in the free world you can do that - but in sports, you are practically a slave - they move and ship you around like cattle all because of "contracts". Now if you are doing poorly they can dump you and not pay you another nickle - but when you are at your best, they can lock you down like a slave and tell you we have a "contract!"

So - no, it is not the end of story! The Packers are full of it and they are using the best qb in the history of the game as a second class prostitute from a foreign land! Either you work for me or you don't work for nobody!

Favre was interviewed last night by Greta Van Susteren and he said the reason why he retired was because the Packers wanted him to decide if he was coming back or not and at the time, he wasn't ready to make a commitment. This whole thing with him is getting bizarre and if it were any other athlete, he'd be raked over the coals.

I, too, was hoping Favre could stay retired. That way I don't have to hear John Madden man-crush this guy to death.

For all you people that want Favre to retire, I hope and pray when you get to retirement age, albeit how soon that may be, that no one forces you to make a decision to retire or stay!? people amaze me these days!

That reminds me of the Joe Montana deal with the 49ers. Remember Montana was being pushed out for Steve Young. The 49ers knew Montana had a couple of good years left in him and didn't want to risk letting a division rival pick him up, so they talked him into finding a team that wasn't a divisional rival which is how he ended up at Kansas City. I could see the same deal being cut with Favre.

Certainly the Packers are trying to make a smart decision for their brand. It would be completely foolish of them to release this guy with two years left to go and play for a team in their division. Brett may be older than other players, but his juice is still flowing. He doesn't have to run, he can stand and throw...well. He's on the downside but he still has steam left in that arm. Knowing this, they aren't going to release this guy unless he is going to Baltimore or some other team that they will not face. I think.

As far as him not wanting to retire, he shouldn't have. He should have waiting until the season started over to make the announcement. Take some time off during off season and see what you feel like when that time comes. Continuing to go back and forth is frustrating for the team, the owners, the fans and even him. He rushed himself. He isn't ready to let life live itself, he wants to control it a little while longer. Who can be mad at that? But at the same time, he should have been prepared for the fact that they wouldn't drop everything just to have him back when he could walk off again at any time. They need to look forward and work with Rodgers to move them to the next level. Brett needs to accept that if he comes back, it won't be to GreenBay.

How many companies now have no compete clauses? You know, if you work at one television station, you sign that you won't work at another station for a year after you've quit/resigned/been canned? It's the same thing. He read the contract, he knows the rules, and he has to abide by them. Unless Green Bay changes their mind and either lets him go or lets him play as starter, then that is end of story.

And Favre being the best QB in the history of football is a matter of opinion. Your opinion: he's the best. My opinion: Joe Montana or Steve Young could have run rings around Favre. But our opinions on who is the best QB don't matter. It's the rules of the NFL and the contract he signed at Green Bay that matters.

Lady Havoc, are you addressing me? I don't think he's the best QB ever....not at all. I haven't even been around long enough to say that he's the best player ever! I'm too young to make such a profound charge as that...sort of. No, but seriously, I didn't give any indication what so ever that he was the greatest QB ever nor did I mention that anyone was "best". And why such anger?

OK, brett's still causing a bit of a stir...see below...and please someone tell me what this guy is thinking about? What exactly is he trying to do? I mean I know he wants to play ball, but is that desire causing him to make idiotic decisions? Is that possible....wanting something so bad, that you loose your freaking mind??? :-)
