10 Things: Purpertrator

A lot of things can be said about Purpertrator. Because there are so many, we've managed to narrow them down to ten, just to give you a taste on how great these up and coming performers are.
1 Purpertrator plays a show Dec. 10 at Martin's Restaurant and Lounge (214 S. State St., 601-668-8464).
2 Yes, the Hattiesburg-based funk band spells its name with a "u."
3 Band members are John Mark Odom, guitar; Jon Barr, drums; Justin Royal Hays, bass; and James "the Meatiest" Medious, saxophone.
4 The band came up with the idea of "PurpFest," a music festival held Aug. 3 in downtown Hattiesburg..
5 The band is not quite 3 years old.
6 The band's standards include "Real Eyes' Perception," "Funky Dory," "That's Avenewz to Me" and "Proclomation."
7 The band members call their fans the Funketeers.
8 Purp is not all funk. Any genres is up for grabs at Purpetrator shows. Anything from metal, hip-hop or even trance can happen, depending on the crowd.

10 The band members are huge Led Zeppelin fans.
