Not, of course, that he'll be playing. (Although just imagine if he had a year of eligibility and wanted to get a Master's degree...) According to CoachingSearch.com via Sports Illustrated, Deuce McAllister, former Ole Miss and New Orleans Saint running back, will be headed to the coaching staff in a yet-to-be-determined capacity, although he will not be one of the nine official assistant coaches.

According to Roll Call, Barbour wasted no time in getting back to his other job, working as a high-powered lobbyist for the firm named in his honor -- BGR Group -- formerly Barbour, Griffith and Rogers.
In a short statement, the firm said it “is pleased to announce Governor Haley Barbour will return to the firm as Founding Partner.”
Barbour took what appears to have been a paid leave of absence from the firm in 2004, but has now fulfilled his gubernatorial sabbatical and will return to his ... read on »
Economic Jeffery Sachs notes that Reagan's "War on Government" -- and the 30+ year experiment of low taxation for the wealthy and deregulation of financial markets has led to serious income inequality and national competitiveness.
I encourage you to watch the whole thing, even if Reagan is some sort of equivalent to a pagan god for you. It's only a few minutes long, but it does a great job of helping us understand why things in this country only feel "good" for a small percentage of ... read on »
AP in Jackson has an unnamed source saying that Barbour plans to return to BGR Group (formerly Barbour, Griffith and Rogers), a lobbying firm that focuses primarily and Republican issues and candidates. (Their Washington DC office is actually near 13th Street NW and F Street NE, a few blocks from K Street.)
Barbour held his interest in the firm in trust while serving as governor, and reportedly continued to benefit from its activities during his eight years in office.
If true, it's not clear ... read on »
Am I the biggest fan of Health Care Reform? No... I think a number of additional steps, like the public option, could have been taken to make this a more comprehensive solution. And I'm worried that it doesn't yet do enough to curb the costs of medicine in this country while making sure access (and cost sharing of the system) are universal.
But within the framework of "getting something done" -- including the fact that the reforms themselves include a number of GOP proposals from a saner time ... read on »
The University of Mississippi has released this video of Archie Manning, Ole Miss alum and former football great, who co-chaired their search committee for a head coach to replace Houston Nutt.
Ole Miss is hiring Hugh Freeze, the first-year coach of Arkansas State.

An exchange here on the site lead me to do something I don't any more often than I absolutely have to... I launched Newsmax.com, the swelteringly conservative website and magazine based in South Florida.
And it was there that I saw something I least expected: common sense.
It came in the form of a Ben Stein column (he'll always be the Ferris Bueller teacher to me) called "Raising Taxes is the Adult Thing to Do." Wow.
How does this lauded conservative describe the 30-year experiment in ... read on »
Great story in the Nation by Thomas Geoghegan, called What Would Keynes Do? outlines a problem in the U.S. economy that not enough people -- either conservatives or liberals or moderates and flip-floppers -- are worrying about right now: the trade deficit.
If we consult his writing, the scripture left by Keynes himself, we might be surprised to find that it would be a lot more than “prime the pump”—i.e., just run up the federal debt. For Keynes, the problem would be not just getting people ... read on »
Make no mistake: The American Jobs Act introduced by President Obama last night in a fiery speech last night in Congress is one thing -- stimulus. It's exactly what we need and, finally, it's exactly what we're getting out of this president.
President Barack Obama's $447 billion job-creation plan would likely add 1.9 million payroll jobs and grow the U.S. economy 2 percent, a leading economist said.
The GOP's reaction? GOP Apparent Actual Majority Leader Eric Cantor didn't like the "tone" ... read on »
