Jackson businessman Stuart M. Irby, 58, died last night of an apparent suicide.
WLBT reports that Irby's caretaker found him hanging in his home at about 8 p.m. Police do not suspect foul play.
Irby, whose family founded Stuart C. Irby Co., an electrical company, was plagued in the last few years by a series of scandals and legal troubles. Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood will ask a circuit court judge on Jan. 23 to invalidate the pardons of at least 10 felons whom ex-Gov. Haley Barbour granted clemency before leaving office.

The last campaign finance reports from the 2011 elections are up on the secretary of state's website. The latest reports cover donations and expenditures from Oct. 1 through the end of the year, and while most of the figures cover in the weeks leading up to Nov. 8, donations are still trickling in.
