Christian love for your brother you do not put your self interest first and foremost.
Again in the words of one of my favorite people, Dr. Davis at JSU…I will need to see a compelling document to prove that one…see I am a proud Christian. I also believe that God gave me my senses to use in my defense. See there are examples of the dominant culture using its power to oppress/repress others/groups for its own benefit. To say that they don’t put themselves first and foremost is kinda foolish. I cant say that I have seen any example of a person in leadership do this. Obama has yet to discuss the outrage over Wright and the lack of outrage over Falwell and Robertson. For you to truly believe that It would be insane for Obama to associate himself publicly with such outlandish and indefensible positions. What did he say…we can agree that it was very inconvenient but to say that Wright put himself before Obama…please…no way…I didn’t see it…no one on these boards has discussed the differences in how the media has treated Wright and how they treat the Falwell’s, Coulter’s, Robertson’s et. al…
O a sellout is very extreme --- a little Wrightish.
Well, what do you call someone that runs when it gets hard…Someone that rides with you and then throws you under a bus for their benefit. Im not a criminal, I do know people…but I know what I saw. I saw a man run like the wind when it got inconvenient. I don’t know what you call it, but I call that selling out.
Hillary has gone stone-ass crazy. She would probably bomb or attack Iran or venequela right now just to show white America she’s the crazy-ass white woman for the job.
Be careful what you say on here about women, the morality police will find this quote to be offensive…I mean I know you were trying to be funny but this is a little sexist and offensive…
I understand your honor Skipp. What I’m saying though is that Hillary clearly wants to show some Americans - republicans, cowards and war-mongering nuts - that she’s as crazy as any white man ever was when it comes to war or killing people who don’t share our version of the world or the truth. I’m not sure it matters to her who is morally or factually right just as it didn’t to Cheney and Bush. And these things will matter eventually in the long run of things. The more I watch Hillary and McCain, the more I see the same white man. We need change, not the same white man who has brought us so much misery and pain. Maybe this is all America will ever want. We shall see!
I believe the reason no one has brought up Hagee, Roberston, and others is because we are talking about how Wright’s sermon’s have affected Obama. Most progressive people can see that the media is being unfair with Obama. If you go to other progressive blogs, you’ll see where there is an outrage over the differences in treatment. In addition, a recent poll indicated that this so called controversy hasn’t really hurt him. Maybe because of how he dealt with it? Who knows.
Obama has for the most part stayed above belt on this when it comes to pointing out the things that those “men of faith” have said. It wouldn’t do him personally any good because it would make him look like a whiner. Whenever one of my young daughters has done something that places them in trouble, they will use the “Well so and so did it too” line. Obama isn’t perfect and has admitted it.
Lastly, let me say this. One of the things that makes the JFP special is because this is one of the places where for the most part, there is open an honest discussion regarding issues that affect the average U.S. Citizen. Particularly race in a state that hasn’t had the best record for treating it’s African American citizens.
Personally, I feel there is way too much emphasis placed on what the white culture has done to the black culture in the U.S by some of the black posters here. We know what has been done in the past and must not forget it. You can’t forget it if you go to places like Hollandale or Belzoni. In some of the postings, I could see how white people could get offended or alienated thus limiting the important discussions that are had here. As a matter of fact, one of my co-worker’s (who is white) has seen the thread. He doesn’t believe that Rev. Wright said anything wrong either. However, he thought the tone of the language from some of the posters seemed almost anti-white.
Consequently, there are white posters whom just don’t get that racism is still alive and act like minorities have had every opportunity that they may have had. Those who really choose to can point to things that are said in this blog that seem to be anti-white as a means to point out the “reverse racism” card. I guess it’s a good thing that we don’t see too many of those.
Whatever your thoughts are on Obama, he seems to be refreshing in that he represents change. Not only because he shares common ancestry with me, but because he also shares it with white people as well. He wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth and knows what food stamps are. In a way he represents the “American Dream.” Things are changing as many young white people have moved past the race issue and are very concerned about the way this country is going. That is why so many of them are voting for Obama.
With that, I’m done on this thread. You folks in JFP land have a good night.
It looks like Hillary has the Clinton News Network (formerly CNN), Fox, ABC, CBS and now NBC following her little sad song. A Clinton supporter arranged the speech before the press club. They knew Wright would ring everybody’s bell at some point. That said, everything he says ain’t all that crazy. One the other hand, there is plenty that is. The point however is none of that. The real issue is the attitude of some whites that Obama is somehow to blame for staying in the church. Moreover, these same folks insult our collective intelligence by suggesting that, because he stayed, he somehow “soaked up” and adopted Rev. Wright’s opinion on each and every issue which has, does, will or may affect humanity or the cosmos. That, together with the elite argument (i.e the uppity you know what argument) and the so called “bitter” statement (he was right), have given Clinton and the media an excuse to continue what can only be called an outright assault on reason and objective thought. Unfortunately, many folks will succumb. Thankfully not all. Obama will make it through and will be the nominee and the next president. If he does not, I think this country will be in very, very serious trouble in a number of ways.
I like those comments by both jazz musicians. I like even the point about a few bloggers hurting some white folks’ feelings. Without Skipp and me breaking down the residing racial components of American society as only we can, it might just go unmentioned or not fully discussed. Admittedly, there are a few more persons who mention these matters too in a more benign way. Not everyone is trying to present the truth in a honey-dipped or icecreamed fashion. Skipp and I are rappers, raw, bold and hardcore. It’s a rough job but somebody able has to do it. We’re good people too and most people can see it. Those people bothered or afraid of us should be because they don’t want to feel our pain, got skeletons or unresolved issues of race still hidden within, or they don’t like hardcore rappers like us. Some people ride in the car and some people drive them. Skipp and I are drivers.
Some of these white folks need to get real about Revern Wright and their own pastors and mentors. Revern Wright is no comparison to many of the klansman, racists and devils that pastored in many white churches or teachers many whites were groomed by.
What does anti-white mean? Some whites have and still do consider the advancement of Civil Rights, Affirmative action, the New Deal, the 13th, 14th, 15th Amendments, Revern Wrights’ comments, any form of welfare, any form of general and whole medical care, Skipp’s’ comments, my comments, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Barack Obabma, etc, as anti-white. Does their feelings or sentiments define or determine what is anti-white moreso or instead of the actual facts or the truth of the matter?
I welcome anyone pointing out any anti-white comments I make. I admit I don’t feel any obligation or duty to make white folks, threatened by my mere existence and boldness, feel comfortable or overjoyed with me. I won’t let any of them dictate what I feel, think or say. Might I suggest they get real again. I’m not running for any office seeking their votes. I can defend anything I say or do.
This is not meant as argument or division just something different to ponder.
Agreed, Walt. I’ve never understood what “anti-white” means, either. I personally am anti-white-supremacy and anti-white-privilege. Still, considering that “whiteness” is an artificial construct created and defined by “white” discrimination and white supremacy, maybe one could say that “anti-white” would be a short way to phrase it. In that case, being “anti-white” wouldn’t be a bad thing, though.
I sure the hell am not “pro-white.” I’m pro-equality and *real* level playing fields.
All that said, I suppose there are African Americans so bitter about white supremacy and white privilege that they distrust and disparage all white people. I don’t think that’s a healthy response, but I do understand it. That kind of response—which I would characterize as “wounded"—is my race’s burden to bear based on our past. And I do believe that our outreach and honesty can help change that response, and that is also our burden to bear. We have the burden of proof and initial outreach, and I’m OK with that. Someday that may no longer be true, but we’re sure not there, yet. The paranoid white treatment of the Rev. Wright affair, while giving McCain a pass for his queastionable religious alliances, is proof of how much work we have to do.
The media, by the way, are sick and shameful on this issue. History will not be kind to the media for actions of this year. Of course, the market is already killing them for selling out for easy bucks and ratings, but it’ll take time for that reality to set in. By then, the media climate will be changed dramatically, hopefully for the better.
What a wonderful and understanding comment by Donna. I felt honesty, truth, empathy, understanding, love, sympathy, willingness to work together beyond racial lines, open-mindedness, fairness, equality, brillance, cognition, cerebration, critical thinking, lack of shame and blaming herself for something she didn’t do, lack of shackles holding her back from commenting, lack of guilt that causes paralyses, etc.. I even saw the awesome power of the woman that we men too often don’t have or is afraid to disclose. Yet people ask me why do you like that white women, Ladd. I simply say because she’s amazing just like another white female friend of mines named Joanne who showed those annointed white men in corporate America how to swim with the sharks without becoming one of them.
im not anti-anything...im for my people...you know my people, the people that seek to be with me and around me...if you dont so be it...what type of arrogant juice do “white-people” drink to make them think that i have enough time in my day to be against them…
anywho...donna...we disagree a whole lot (im not wounded, im just going by previous outcomes of actions. too often has that olive branch been used as a switch in my experience.)…
it is my race’s burden to bear based on our past. And I do believe that our outreach and honesty can help change that response, and that is also our burden to bear. We have the burden of proof and initial outreach, and I’m OK with that.
i must agree. see from what ive read, there have never been black people running around oppressing europeans in this country. my intent is not to upset you. my intent is to show you how I feel. I read a quote that said, “black people have used language to hide how they feel,” see we didn’t speak directly, because we couldn’t. now that we do you guys get uncomfortable. i dont see why i should apologize just so you will feel better. i didnt do anything. im not gonna hold hands and sing songs until your words are reflected in your work. i dont know where the logic lies in taking a liar at their word. maybe you guys on the internet didnt do it, but if i have to suffer and be lumped in with your prejudice. then you will be lumped into mine. two wrongs dont make a right, but i have to protect myself. fool me once…
too often, white people tend to get uncomfortable when black people get loud. well this is me...this is how i talk...im not sorry…
note: i dont like these sassy women on this site, but i dont complain...i accept it...lol
its time out for a group of people who have done or received so much from the doings of others to stop getting hurt when that is acknowledged. you reap the benefits of actions that were on your behalf…you cant deny them…i cant say that i would either
I agree with you Skipp. I have been dealing with this in my mind for weeks. The only thing that’s sticking to me is that I haven’t heard anything from Rev. Wright that most black people haven’t thought at one time or another in their lives. I am terribly disturbed that Obama is throwing him under the bus because he wants to be president. I mean, don’t get me wrong I know this man can’t openly support Rev Wright AND win this presidency. But the hope I had that he would be true to his own convictions is now lost. There is no way this dude attended that man’s church for 20 years and not know that Wright felt this way. I will even venture to say that during that 20 year time frame or the baptism of his kids, at some point, he was encouraged by Rev. Wrights ideas, at some point he was in agreement with these ideals. I dont see him staying there and maintaining a relationship with this man IF he thought he was Cucoo for cocopuffs. He’s denouncing him now in a way that I consider to be cowardly. Don’t bag down now. If anything just leave it alone. Don’t let people force you to make a statement that you don’t believe in. Most of the people in this county are WAITING for something to deter them from voting for Obama anyway....so just be real and go with the flow. I have a problem with this for real. I mean sure one can argue that Wright isn’t the most UpRight dude out there. He has a few screws that could stand to be tightened. But he hasn’t said anything that I personally haven’t heard before and I know Obama has heard it. So, now that white people are questioning it and latching on to that ONE THING they knew would happen eventually and lead to his demise....he wants to jump ship. I find that quite discreditable for a man seeking to lead a nation of people. Everyone didn’t agree with MLK or JFK, but they stayed true to what they beleive and compromised very little. Obama’s off to a rocky start in my book....
CBS is reporting that a large percentage of whites and a sizable percentage of blacks polled today said the Wright thing has hurt Obama in their view, and affected their votes while at the polls. I’m surprised black folks feel this way unless they feel Obama shouldn’t have turned on Wright. This is blowing my mind. Zenopbobia and jingoism must be at play. If this story destroys Obama there will be trouble on the hands of many people. This is the apex of hypocrisy in my view. I don’t know that many whites are unpatriotic but I know many are many other unsavory things.
I’m surprised that Quuen believes that Obama had to also believe in Wright’s bad ideas. I believe you can like a person for some reasons and dislike or disagree with them for other reasons.
Obama has to unload Wright or risk losing out on the dream he has put some much work into. If he chooses to purposely let Wright derail him he hurts lot of good people who are willing to trust and vote for him. I won’t throw Wright under the bus but I will tell him to get away from me and the bus while I try to win the presidency.
Obama has been declared the winner in North Carolina, while Indiana, where Clinton is leading, is early to call. Clinton is leading Indiana 53-47% with 67% of the vote, but a lot of voting precincts in the Indianapolis and northwest Indiana areas have not reported, so that lead could shrink even further or even evaporate. If NC and Indiana results hold as they are for Obama, I think he could get the nomination without having to take it to the convention.
I am terribly disturbed that Obama is throwing him under the bus because he wants to be president.
im terribly disturbed that people are surprised by this. this dude aint my hope. ive never believed him. now i have evidence. its just something about him. this just reflects his lack of character. im dancing with my date at the party. its just i dont know why he has yet to attack.
a member of my church said that obama attacked so many stereotypes. it was like by doing well he showed them for us.
i don’t seek the approval of the outside….well, unless im buying sneakers, but im still more important than everyone else to me. i have to like me and if i do, i don’t care who doesn’t.
Obama has to unload Wright or risk losing out on the dream he has put some much work into.
what good is a man who gains the world and loses his soul?

Even if he doesn’t win Indiana, she should see the writing on the wall. It’s over.
My Prediction: She’s going to keep pushing this damn “horserace” (an illusion) all the way to the convention.
