As far as Mexican food, Cozumel’s in Ridgeland and the one on Fortification and I-55 (can’t call the name of it right now) are really good.

For the JFP Lounge this Thursday (assuming the weather doesn’t turn bad like the last time), I’ll be visiting Sal & Mookie’s for the first time. Any recommendations on what I should order?

You are thinking of La Cazuela.  While the food is not terrific, it can hit the spot and they make an excellent margarita.  Plus the mariachi band can be fun too—not to mention the patio (which would be amazing on a nice day like today).

FYI - Tye’s is now open Downtown.  I peeked in for a look yesterday, and it smells terrific and was packed.  The menu is MUCH more appealing than the menu at Koi, and I would be very surprised if this place is not a huge hit.

where is Tye’s? And what sort of food? I agree Koi’s menu is limited.

Koi was crap and I don’t miss it at all.  Hopefully I’ll be able to visit Tye’s soon.

Tye’s is in the Plaza building, where Koi used to be.  Same building as Basil’s downtown.  Tye’s is open for lunch and dinner, and I happen to have menus for both (Disclaimer:  I have no relation at all to the restaurant or its owners).  Lunch has the standard salads; sandwiches (including oyster/fish/shrimp poboys); and seafood pasta dishes.

The dinner menu includes the lunch (minus the sandwiches), plus more pasta dishes, steaks/veal, chicken, and a large seafood selection.

I would guess that they will get their liquor license in around 6 weeks.

Tye owned Portabella’s in Byram. He sold that restaraunt and took over Koi’s old spot.

I am eating there for the first time on Friday.  I have high hopes.

Time to put your money where your mouths are, folks.  Whether you liked Koi or not, Tye will have to have more support from the likes of you fine folks espousing the many reasons to be excited about downtown redevelopment.  His risk and efforts will only be rewarded if us Jacktownians get down there to welcome him and become regular patrons.  I’m rooting for you, Tye!  By the way, expect to learn soon who else is moving into the city limits from an outlying area…

I didn’t realize that was that Tye that took over Koi’s old spot. I always liked Portabella’s, I will definitely have to check this place out.

Primos? Tico’s? El Dorado? I guess only the shadow knows…

You are thinking of La Cazuela.

Thanks, Fat. I can’t ever seem to remember the name of the place. I almost called it Consuela’s.

Senab: I’m sure there are Food Inspectors which would love a call, if you’re on the level.

Dangit, I’m going to Nick’s for lunch tomorrow!

Also curious about the restaurant moving into town.  My guess would be Olga’s—lack of wine/liquor has gotta hurt, and I believe they were recently busted for allowing brown bagging.

Mississippi has the most backwards and idiotic alcohol laws in the nation.

FYI, rodent traps are part of every pest program initiated by a licensed and reputable pest control company; it does not equate to mice/rats being present.  Every restaurant inspection is available for public viewing on the health department’s website.  Let’s make educated decisions on where to eat as opposed to casual dispersions of certain owners’ financial skills.
BTW, more than one restaurant in Rankin County was delivered a letter from the ABC re: Dry County/alcohol service.  It seemed many residents were just as ignorant of the law as some operators.

Any restaurants in the area that are diabetic-friendly?

Andi, I agree.  I mean, I eat at CS’s every week.  There are some things I just don’t want to know about, and what’s behind the kitchen door is one of them.
