Since it seems like the state legislature and everyone outside Jackson hates Jackson for whatever reason, I wonder how bad do other state capitols have it. Since state capitols are the seat of power of their respective states, it is easy to vent frustrations at them. But do people in Louisiana try to work hard against Baton Rouge? What about Little Rock? Do everyone else in Arkansas hate them? Like Little Rock, Jackson also has the distinction of being the largest in its state, so perhaps the vitriol against us could be worse, as Mississippi has no other large major center to take the pressure off of us, unlike Baton Rouge and Nashville.

After reading the following article, “Men tell Oprah why they beat the women they love”

http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/wayoflife/04/02/o.why.men.abuse.women/index.html

It just has me wondering?

My father abused my mother and I hated it, but as I got older - there were some issues that I started to question.

I mean men are supposed to be these strong creatures that can impose their will on whomever they choose.

While women are supposed to be soft spoken settle creatures.

But there were a lot of time I seen my mother belittle my father and call him everything but a child of god.

It still doesn’t give a person reason to put their hands on someone else, unless it is in a friendly and loving gesture.

But why spark someone off, why go off and then expect nothing in return.

I just think so much responsibility of an abusive relationship falls on the man.

You watch all these talk shows and it is like, “if a man hits you, he doesn’t love you!” - “You are stupid for staying with him, if he does”

what is that saying, you did not do anything wrong!

I think hitting women is barbaric, ancient and very immature, but for some reason it has been happening for thousands of years.

I think instead of finding who to blame in regards to male on female abuse, we need to focus on the culture and atmosphere that created the problem.

I have to give Oprah credit for addressing the matter, but she did it after the fact. I think it would have been smarter to begin with why instead of who!

...but that’s if her would-be opponent, Craig Denson, qualifies. The issue is that he didn’t check the box that asked if he met all requirements to run for the mayor’s office. The deadline to run was a week ago. The Republican Party will meet to determine if they will allow Denson’s name on the ballot for the May 5 primary.

This would be the first time Mrs. Butler has had opposition in 16 years, as she’s seeking her eighth term for Madison mayor. I believe the Repubs will allow him to run. Any decision to not let him run could possibly be seen as a conspiracy to make sure Queen Mary runs unopposed. We’ll see what happens.

Greetings good people, this is your boy baquan2000!

Some of you know and some of you don’t - but I have lived in a good number of places in 30+ odd years of being on gods green earth - Chicago, Cleveland, New York (Queens), Miami and now Jackson.

The one thing I miss about those places are the eating joints - Chicago (sandwhichs and pizza), Cleveland (Polish Boy Sandwhichs from Hot Sauce Williams), New York (Jamaican Beef patties, Pizza and sandwhichs from Katz’s Deli), Miami (Cracked Conch, Conch Fritters, Conch Salad, Stone Crabs, Miami Pizza and Subs, fresh, fresh Grouper)

Now Jackson has a spot or two, I really have strong faith in and rely on the regular - Stamps (Al’s is cool, but if he isn’t at work - your burger is dry as a desert) and of course E & L BBQ, Beatty Street Grocer and the metro has some decent cat fish places, in this order 1. Harvey’s 2. Eddie’s & Ruby’s 3. Valley Street - Martin’s honorable mention, open when they want to and always super packed - so your order gets lost! Sorry Martin’s keeping it real!

but i wanted to give a shot out to this one eatery because they do Chi-town portions and that shot out goes to Saigon on Lakeland Drive! Portions, portions and portions are the key to being a winner and hands down they deliver! Quality, freshness and price they are my favorite! They know their customers and super duper friendly! I only wish they would move somewhere closer to me, I would go from once every two weeks to three times a week!

Rice Delight on Northside Drive gets honorable mention! Its grimey, but the Hunan Beef! Is pure-d-fire! That is true ghetto-fab asian! They remind me of Grand Chinese on W. 87th in Chicago, they give the portions and the flavor!

Pan-Asia - so, so if you want to impress someone but they have seriously fallen off! Two thumbs down goes to Thai House on Old Square! Portions, price and quality of service!!!!!???? Very, very dissapointed - considering what Thai food has contributed to urban communities, it is practically a staple in major markets! Almost like McDonalds, you can find them anywhere and come out satisfied!

Anyway - this is for the people at Saigon, keep up the good work and I hope some of you that have never tried them - give’em a go and if you have questions, they will hip you thru the menu and will suggest something for you - when you get a little more experienced, venture off the beaten path - but I always suggest the egg rolls and vegeterian soup for beginners!
