"Face Jugs for Little Folks" (a play on "Folk" pottery)

I would like to offer "Face Jugs for Little Folks" to school groups k-12 and other interested groups. I would supply the clay and pre-make the small jugs, keep them soft and bring them to the Craft Center with all the extra clay and necessary tools for the scheduled workshop which takes about 1 hr. No glazing is involved.

I write each child's name on the bottom of the jug. Teachers can also be notified when the jugs from their class have been fired and come by to pick them up as a group.

Downtown Jackson Toastmasters Grand Opening Meeting

Toastmasters International, a public-speaking and leadership organization, is forming a new chapter in Downtown Jackson. The group has been meeting informally since July, but is officially opening its meetings for new membership at this meeting. All ages, professions and skill-levels are invited. Although the group encourages everyone in attendance to participate, attendees or members are never asked to speak unless they volunteer. Toastmasters International is the most effective, affordable way to develop presentation and public speaking skills for professional or personal development. Meetings are structured in a peer-taught environment that is designed to feel more like the members are visiting with each other rather than being lectured by a professional. All attendees are invited to participate in various roles during the meeting but no public speaking experience is required or even suggested.

Healing Power of Dreams

Throughout history, our own dreams have provided a rich, very personal resource for problem solving, inspiration, creativity, and insight. This course will help students learn to value this natural insight by giving them basic information about dreams and their use through history. Participants will learn some ways to use their dreams as a source of information and inspiration about themselves and possible difficulties in relationships, problems relating to work or artistic expression, or problems of a spiritual nature. In this one-day workshop, the instructor will introduce students to these basic tools to help access this resource; and there will be plenty of hands-on practice using participants' dreams.

Cost: $40; Sat., 27, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.; 1 class meeting.

With video cameras being available at very reasonable prices, any youngster can become a video producer. Mr. Zapletal will demonstrate different kinds of puppets and show how they can be applied in programs that young film and video makers can make. In an entertaining way he will discuss advantages of each puppetry form. This workshop is recommended for children ages six and older who are interested in television/film production.
