Higher Education Appreciation Day-Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE)

Date and Time: Tue, Feb 28, 11:45 am

Sixty-eight outstanding students and faculty members from 34 Mississippi public and private universities and colleges will receive special recognition from the Mississippi Legislature on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, during the 25th Annual Higher Education Appreciation Day—Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) program.

HEADWAE was established in 1988 by legislative resolution to honor individual academic achievement and the overall contribution of the state’s public and private institutions of higher learning.

The honorees will begin the day with a visit to the State Capitol where they will be welcomed and recognized by the Senate and House of Representatives and given a tour of the Capitol.  The awards luncheon will begin at 11:45 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel, 200 East Amite Street in Jackson.  Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves, chair of HEADWAE, will be the luncheon speaker.

“Mississippi’s universities play a vital role in growing our state’s economy and training our workforce for higher-skilled jobs,” Reeves said. “Higher Education Appreciation Day is a way for the Legislature to say ‘thank you’ to faculty and staff at the state’s university campuses for the work they do.”
