- This new partnership with St. Andrews Episcopal Cathedral encourages Jacksonians to stay downtown for some culture and fun. Designed for enjoyment on its own or as a warm-up for other evening obligations, this event features such entertainers as Lester Senter and John Paul performing French love songs, Marta and Danuta Szlubowska in a recital of Chamber Music for violin and piano and Sibyl Child and John Paul performing songs of Claude Debussy. Hors d'oeuvres at 5:15 p.m., music performance begins at 5:45 p.m. Specific entertainment announced each month.

- This annual family-friendly music festival also includes a 5K run and walk and one-mile fun run, arts and crafts, a silent auction of goods and services, coffee and desserts, soft drinks and McAlisters tea, and a wide variety of childrens activities. All proceeds will go to New Life for Women, which helps homeless women confronting problems with alcohol and drug abuse. Special activities planned for this years 25th anniversary include a reunion of the surviving members of The Tangents, a pet parade at 10 a.m. and a live auction at noon of art by longtime contributing artists including Wyatt Waters.

- Fifth Annual Wing Dang Doodle Festival

- Get your teams together and cook up your best chicken wings to vie for bragging rights and a $1,000 grand prize for the best grilled/smoked or fried chicken wings. The deadline is September 1, 2008. Cash prizes will be given for the best wings in each category, and a $1,000 goes to the grand prize winner. This years event will feature blues musician Eden Brent. Activities are planned for every age group: arts and crafts, a pet show and parade, and motorcycle show. Forest Community Arts will be providing arts and crafts for the children.

- The brainchild of Unity Mississippi and the result of an 86% approval rating of a constitutional amendment that intentionally limits marriage between a man and a woman, OUToberfest is a celebration of the Mississippi lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender/transexual, and queer community (and our friends) and features many local and national organizations, groups, businesses, artists, musicians and more. It is also the state's first National Coming Out Day celebration of its kind. Details, including performance lineup, to be announced later.
