- Domestic Violence Conference

- The Domestic Violence Division of the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office, in cooperation with the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence, will hold its second annual Domestic Violence Conference, held at the Silver Star Hotel and Casino in Choctaw, Mississippi, and is entitled Domestic Violence in Our Communities: Response, Accountability, and Progress. Any law enforcement officers, prosecutors, judges, court clerks, probation and parole officers, and advocates working in the field of domestic violence or victims rights are invited to attend.

- Women of a New Tribe: A Photographic Celebration of the Black Woman

- Young Person’s Cultural Exchange Exhibit
- Mar 29 – May 25.
- Over a two-year period, children from four different Mississippi organizations created art while also learning about each other. The Young Person’s Cultural Exchange featured kids and staff from Operation Shoestring, Madison County Cultural Center of Madison, Mississippi Cultural Crossroads of Port Gibson, and Moore Community House of Biloxi. Through several themed projects, art shows, and group retreats, the children gained the enrichment of artistic expression. But these experiences additionally helped them recognize the commonality and individuality they all possess. From March 29 to May 25 the Mississippi Museum of Art will display 55 of 500 pieces created during YPCEP. On Saturday April 12 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., a reception will recognize the run as well its artists.

- Registration for "Peeling Back the Layers: Working with Survivors of Abuse" begins April 30 and lasts until June 1, with the workshop itself happening June 19. The workshop will be held at the Mississippi e-Center at Jackson State University. Selected presentations include "Overview of Domestic Violence," "Healing the Wounds of Domestic Violence," "Trauma Interventions with Families," and "Legal Resources for Survivors of Domestic Violence." - Nominations for 2009 Governor's Awards in Excellence in the Arts

- The Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) is seeking nominations for the 2009 Governor’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts. The nomination deadline has been moved up to allow ample preparation time for the special public ceremony held each year in February. The awards, presented annually by the Arts Commission and the Governor’s Office, recognizes organizations and individuals whose work on behalf of the arts has significantly contributed to the growth and development of the cultural life of Mississippi. Previous winners have included Charley Pride, Sela Ward, Morgan Freeman, Eudora Welty and Willie Morris. A panel of judges representing all aspects of the arts will select the winners, who will be awarded at the annual public ceremony on Thursday, February 26, 2009. - In celebration of the 007-themed "Shaken, Not Stirred: 3rd Annual Storytellers Ball" (set for Thursday, August 21, 2008), the Greater Jackson Arts Council is sponsoring Live and Let Draw, hoping to capture an artistic mood befitting the suave British secret agent, with a first place prize of $1000. The theme is James Bond, but the creativity is all yours. Potential subject matter is as rich as the box office records for the 20+ films: exotic locales, seductive Bond Girls, evil masterminds, the oh-so-smooth Sean Connery–anything related to the glamorous, romantic, and dangerous world of 007. - Exact dates of exhibition to be announced. An exibit of mixed media paintings by Andrew Cary Young at the Mississippi Library Commission new headquarters facility. For the past five years Young has been working on a new series of paintings using rendering techniques for stained glass design sketches. Part of the techniques include ideas taken from traditional Russian Orthodox icon writing.
