Beginning in May, WDBD Fox 40 will have an hour-long newscast at 9PM, one hour earlier than the traditional 10pm newscasts. In the early 90s, Fox 40 had an hour-long newscast, but it only lasted a few months. It was also broadcast on several other TV stations in the state.

I think this is a great move for Fox, as it is one of the larger Fox affiliates in the country without a news operation. I'm interested in seeing if any familiar faces, past or present, will be a part of the Fox 40 family. Rick Whitlow and Lee Owens, both former WJTV sports directors, are out there for the taking.

Also, beginning March 3, WLBT will have a 4pm newscast. The 4pm newscast is a growing trend nationwide, especially in large markets. This is the first time I can recall a newscast in Jackson at 4pm. But I'm at work during this time, so it'll be very hard for me to see it.

God save us from any more Rick Whitlow! Dude is probably going to try and run for Mayor even though I heard he lives in Flora!

He is going to run for mayor. You want another term of Melton? I've met Whitlow. I have no problems with him.

Loved FOX in Kentucky. They had a 10pm newscast: we were in Eastern time, so the regular newscasts were at 11pm. I could watch the news on FOX before having to be at work at 11pm.

Good for the affiliate here. I can watch the news and go to bed early. :)

When I lived in Atlanta, I used to watch the Fox affiliate's newscast as well, since it was on at 10pm. It will be quite challenging, though, to flip between the news and Law & Order.

God save us from any more Rick Whitlow!

I think it'll be Lee Owens before Rick Whitlow, though. Lee did reports for Fox 40 when the Saints were in town for training camp, so it would be a natural for him to be the sports anchor/director.

I remember that. I remember when they did a close-up of a picture I drew for an art contest.
