I post this in the context of starting a discussion on the Internet, talk radio and "news." I must start with my story. I was at a dinner party for my wife's co-workers. these are people with college and college plus degrees whose political spectrum falls from liberal to liberal conservative. Socially liberal.
The topic turned to the presidency and I pledged my support for Edwards, and I was asked about his "affair." I had missed this... I read the paper every day, hit CNN and MSNBC every day more than is healthy and was floored... I knew nothing. He asked me about details.... I finally found out it was a National Enquirer story that the right-wing talk hosts had picked up.
It is scary when a moderate to progressive person can be moved by reports of an affair that start with the National Enquirer and move into talk radio and somehow gain some since of real reporting. I should mention he was humiliated when the true source was revealed.

I never believe anything in those rag mags unless what they say is confirmed by a reputable source. Neither should any talk radio host whose words are taken as gospel by a large segment of the population. I find that highly irresponsible, and to put it bluntly, stupid.
Whenever my mom comes home and says she heard something negative about a celebrity, I always ask her where it came from. If it came from the cover of a tabloid at the checkout counter, I quickly dismiss it. I think it irritated her at first when I kept questioning her sources, but now she's catching on since some of the stuff she's read turns out to be false.

Wasn't it the Enquirer that nailed Gary Hart? Or People?
Also, TMZ and a few others say of all the "rags" the Enquirer tends to get the best (mostly truthful) stuff - besides TMZ! LOL.
Agamm, rest assured that the Obama and Clinton camps hastily emailed around the Edwards story internally, and they are both doing their own investigation in the matter. Don't just heap this on "right-wingers." I don't think the Republicans are very scared of the Breck Girl, his mega mansion, and $1000 hair cuts. They don't need an affair to peal back his true colors.
He doesn't resonate with the middle class at all! Obama is a much better choice for the common man over the lawsuit bloated Edwards or the insider's "insider" Clinton.
