We're opening this one on Jo-D's behalf and moving his technical questions here:
Wasn't sure where to put this so I figured putting it here on this JUST IN would get it some attention... you all need a new web host or get your current to make some changes because I kept getting an error all morning that the site couldn't be found. Apparently something has changed because of you go to jacksonfreepress.com instead of WWW.jacksonfreepress.com, now you won't get anything!

Both work for me, Jo-D. Maybe you've having a browser issue. My Safari has been doing something similar; I'll ask Todd to look into it when he can. Otherwise, please start a forum topic, rather than posting off-topic.

Jo-D, that has nothing to do with the host. It's most likely a browser or an ISP issue.

Well, it hasn't been an issue before today and I've made no changes to the bookmark or to my browser...

I've actually been having problems over the past month. A few times where the site was down for a little bit. Other times where nothing linked right and the errors on the page.
Did someone give metlon the Admin Username/Password? ;)

Links that went no where this morning.
The home page was really messed up as far as layout this morning about 9ish
A few posts had error messages in them.
I honestly did not write them down but if there is are any more outages, errors or empty pages, I'll just jot them down and post them here.

There's definitely a layout problem going on. When I pull up the home page, the second column is narrower than the third column when it used to be the other way around..

Yeah, that happens to me sometimes in Firefox, too. And in Safari, I can't get the site to load at all. And if it does, the images won't come up.
And that clock thing happened again today. Jo-D's comments came up as with a time stamp of 11 p.m. or such. I moved them to a forum anyway, but I've never seen that problem happen.

I was using Firefox when it happened. That's what I normally use.

Ya know that "Lies of Locke Lamora" ad on the side was added about the same time you guys are talking it seems. Could something in the ad column have pushed into the panel sizes throughing something off?

I'm using Firefox and never experienced the "non load" issue. Jo-D, what browser are you using and OS?
As for the layout issue, that was/is tied to StateDesk's feeds not coming through... So, technically, it's not tied to an issue with jacksonfreepress.com though it can throw it out of whack.
As for the timestamp issue, that's a mystery. If the original comments were still in tact, I could have checked for quirks in the database.

Knol, there are comments on this thread that came out at the wrong time:
The following comments were supposed to appear after blkokc's comments at 10:48 and 10:51 p.m., but appeared *above* them:
I just told you the point. And, yes, you told me how to do my job just above. Read it again.
I'm not being defensive; I'm responding to some condescending, dismissive statements about the importance of all of us standing up to the corporate media and demanding better. I'm telling you why I disagree with you completely. Don't dismiss that as defensiveness. That's more condescension, rather than having a conversation about the role of media in a community. That's what I'm doing and challenging others to do as well. You, I'm not sure.
My goal is not to "get Frank out" and play petty bullsh!t politics. It is to do everything in my power to help build a strong community, and media climate, so this doesn't happen all over again, once the current situation gets better. (If it does anytime soon, considering how many years it's been building, and not being talked about in the media.)
And you really ought to go think about your comparison of my explanation of why media literacy is important to a community to being "eerily similar to Frank Melton's personality." Really, go think about it.
Dang, indeed.

(This is very weird. The comment I just posted, 11:13 p.m., appeared above the two by blkokc tht I'm responding to. Have no idea why.)

Happened again, and I'm assuming this comment will appear above the two below as well. Weird-o.

No, that's not Mercury, Donna... It' Comcast. ;-)
Jackpedia is down. Not sure why because I'm looking at the backend right now... Todd set it up, so I'm hoping he'll know more.
As for the timestamp issue, I'm thinking it's tied to one of the servers in the server farm being off my a few sec/mins... At any given point, you can be pulling from or submitting to one server, while I'm on another. It's for, er, efficiency if it works correctly.

Notice that music chick's latest post has an October 07 date on it. Can you fix it, so it won't be at the top of Recent Comments for months? ;-)

This is just an aesthetic note, when Jackpedia gets back up and when everyone gets these problems under control, I thought that a link at the top of the page for Jackpedia would be cool, like near the "lounge list" and "live music" just an idea.

Good advice, Trust. We're actually working on aesthetics for Jackpedia and version 3.0 of the JFP site now, so any and all advice is welcome.

Donna, if you're running Safari, try emptying your cache...
To empty the cache, choose Empty Cache from the Safari menu and then click Empty.
It *may* resolve your problem but it hasn't for me... So, we're still digging.

The iTodd and I are working on the timestamp issues. Anyone having any problems currently should clear their cache and cookies then refresh the site.

Sorry Knol, and others... I wasn't aware this thread had been started or I would have followed up...
I can say alot of things have been screwy over the last few months.. everything from server not found, to the 200 second limit for posts even though I hadn't posted in hours, to being able to get here without WWW and suddenly ONLY being able to get here with WWW.
I'm using WinXP SP 2 with the latest FireFox browser.. several addons such as AD BLOCK PLUS CAUSE I HATE ADS!!!!!! but they've never been an issue before - not so much as to totally be blocking access to the site but yes it does cause some wierd placement of design since ads and ad tables are being removed and therefore actual content moves around to those once occupied spaces. The same non-access issues appear when I, on that rare occasion, use MSIE, Opera and Safari (yes, web designers have them all!).
