I was shocked to see a decent piece on children and gun safety on WAPT Monday evening. The JFP's friend, Cliff Cargill, and local competitive shooter, Matt Moorer, along with their children were interviewed. Unfortunately, I could tell a lot of good information got edited out.
Maybe if more of this got out we would see more common sense gun ownership and less fear mongering.

I caught that segment, too. You know, it amazes me that people still put their guns in their bedroom drawers. Kids like to look in their parents' rooms for gum or spare change. I know I did.

Low drawers should be a common sense "no-no" when little ones are around, or heck, even if untrained adults are around. But gun storage is very situation dependent, as in, who has regular access to my dwelling.
More important, as shown in the segment, are the four commandments of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded.
2) Never point a gun at anything you do not intend to DESTROY
3) Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire
4) Be sure of your target and what is behind/around it
I'm sick of hearing "I didn't know it was loaded" or "I just pointed it at him; I didn't mean to kill him" defenses in the news.
Pointing a gun at someone is an inherent deadly threat.
As for our kids, we do need to remove the mystique/fantasy of guns created by Hollyweird and begin teaching them safety as soon as they can understand it.
Unfortunately, a lot of "adult" politicians and commentators need the same sort of "common sense" education as well.

Good points LW and Chad. And, AMEN on The Four Laws OF Gun Safety! It's great to see people talking common sense when it comes to guns.
