Seems a few folks who post to the Ledge's forums have had their posts removed due to their penchant for ummmmm, individual thought! Happened up on the argument going on over there. Check out the latest! (BTW I haven't figured out how to make a url clickable so please forgive and just cut and paste)

Do you know what they removed? Certainly, they have the right to moderate and remove libelous statements that aren't supported. (BTW, it's really ignorant to say that putting the words "In my opinion" before a libelous statement gives it protected "opinion" status." It doesn't work that way, and people with knowledge of press law knows that.)

Their problem, though, it seems is that they never have had a consistent policy. They don't have a moderator by name who explains things to them. They switched over the whole thing recently and deleted a lot of old threads (including the one about their own plagiarism and the TDN travesty). They don't allow posters to link out (because they are so afraid someone might go to another site; chortle). They use that dumb StoryChat system, which is as stupid a commenting system as I've ever seen. Not to mention that their site looks like someone just puked a bunch of stuff at the screen to see where it fell. Their "bloggers" don't know how to blog (other than Marshall Ramsey, who seems to be the best writer over there as well).

From what I can see, their online "presence" is dying fast. They've already given up the newspaper model. I wonder what's next? Maybe they'll become a TV station.

According to the post below Donna, (Joe Rob reposted the offending statement in his post) the user "Lizzie Borden" had an unkind opinion about the white house. This is the way I read it anyway.

lizzie borden says, "You are allowed to liable and slander republicans as much as you want (IE: Ther bush family murdered the folks in New York on 9-11) but utter no bad word about locals or liberals."

The truth is not libel nor is it slander.
Please don't mix apples and oranges.
