The world-renowned violinist performs.Pianist Sam Haywood accompanies him. The event is a benefit concert for Wesley Biblical Seminary. THE INCOMPARABLE JOSHUA BELL TO PRESENT BENEFIT CONCERT Wesley Biblical Seminary is excited to host An Evening with Joshua Bell, world renowned violinist often referred to as the “poet of the violin,” on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. Classical music’s superstar, Joshua Bell, will be accompanied by the remarkably talented Sam Haywood. The event is a benefit concert for Wesley Biblical Seminary and will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 6000 Old Canton Road, Jackson, Mississippi. “What Joshua Bell does is play the violin. What Joshua Bell is is a poet,” according to an Interview magazine profile. His accomplishments are legendary having appeared with the elite orchestras throughout the world and recently being named the Music Director of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in London. Bell is the first person and first American to hold this post since Sir Neville Marriner formed the orchestra in 1958. Bell has recorded more than 40 CDs since his first LP recording at age 18 on the Decca Label. In October, 2013 Sony released “Musical Gifts From Joshua Bell and Friends.” He has been embraced by a wide popular and artistic audience with numerous appearances on television and in numerous trade and popular publications. In 2007, Bell performed incognito in a Washington, DC subway station for a Washington Post story by Gene Weingarten examining art and context. The story earned Weingarten a Pulitzer Prize and sparked an international firestorm of discussion which continues to this day.
